Visited this place a couple of weeks ago and with zero expectations. While I knew they served Mumbai fare, I did not expect to find Parsi/ Irani food in their menu. Now if you have explored Chennai well enough you would know that there aren’t enough main stream joints that offer this cuisine in their spread – so thats the first reason why I would recommend a visit. AmbienceLarge dining with tables for all family sizes. They also seemed to have a separate private dining zoneThe table cloths were crisp clean – good job there. The ambience was elegant and while you may not get too much privacy on a busy day, the setup does a decent job for a family diner. ServiceReasonably quick and the staff were courteous. No reservations about the service aspects PricingIn adherence to what one may expect – at least by my standards. FoodTried the following : vada pav, bohri kheema pav, pav bhaji, chicken berry pulao and irani chai. While most of them faired decent, here is my two liners on each of it. 1. Vada pav & pav bhaji, The pav bhaji being slightly better, I usually prefer ordering these at pure chaat places as it suits my palate slightly better. If you are a vegetarian, you could try their pav bhaji – else, go for the kheem pav.2. Kheema pav A rare find in Chennai and I liked how the kheema wasnt the typical tiny shreds button slightly larger pieces. Loved it! 3. Chicken berry pulaoSeemed slightly more of a tawa preparation (tawa pulao types) but definitely among the best you would find in Chennai – like I said, we don’t have many places that dish out these delicacies and more importantly in their daily menu. So need to give it to the Via Mumbai team for it- this dish would be one I would definitely reorder on my next visit. 4. Irani chaiPerfect end to the meal with a nice irani chai – took me back to the hyderabad visit recently and the severe craving for Irani chai I have been having since. A decent preparation and while I am not a tea connoisseur, this is something I would recommend. On a summary note, a must visit if you are craving parsi/irani fare in Chennai. Do check it out and let me know if you would agree with my thoughts 🙂 bingingbanker.com
Food:Bun Maska – Typical soft bun with butter filling; munch it in before it dries; went well with the teaVada Pav – A wholesome potato-filled vada between the pav; the saturated chilli with the kicky lemon made the dish worth trying; the sour onion was WhattawowChicken Keema Pav – Utterly Butterly soft pav with spicy keema on the side; the chicken had no frills but personally felt it be too oilyChicken Dosa – Typical roast dosa with a generous amount of chicken filling; it was served with three sides which were just on par since the filling stole the showPani Puri – Crispy puri with a Chatpatta Pani which had all the flavours capable enough to activate all your taste budsKala Khatta Gola – The perfect 90’s kids street dessert; the Sherbet was sweet, tangy and had the Jamun flavour with a hint of lemon, salt and masalaFresh fruit Ice-cream – This needs no introduction and it had fruits like pineapple, pomegranate, apple etc with a touch of their soft ice cream; refreshingSizzling brownie with Malai Kulfi – The most photogenic dish with a slice of kulfi on the top and pineapple on the bottom; consume it hot to feel it’s real prowessIrani Chai – A basic HYD chai which was slightly sweet, thick and satisfying enough to end the meal withAmbience/Price:This place is located conveniently inside the streets so parking shouldn’t be a concern. The place is well lit and has got enormous seating space. The ambience is their biggest strength followed by their courteous service.Price? This place would fall right in the centre of the price meter; Kudos in bringing authentic Mumbai flavours down south. In a nutshell, want Mumbai food? Don’t go to Mumbai, go Via Mumbai.
A new place in chennai to try Mumbai cuisineLocation – located very close to Tower park.Parking – good parking space is available in front of the restaurant.Ambience – an enticing ambience. Beautifully adorned interiors.. There is also option for private dining if you are big group. The resto Can easily accommodate around 70 people at a time.Food – The menu is hugely influenced by Mumbai and Iranian cuisine. We started with Lassi and ferrerk rocher shake as we were so thirsty. Lassi is served in mudpot here. Drinks tasted good.Mixed experience with starters:Grilled calamari and sonia Gandhi prawns. Sonia Gandhi prawns tasted very plain as it’s a garlic based dish.Muhammad Ali road seekh kebab was dry but tasty. It’s based on a famous road in Mumbai known for street foods. Also the tandoori Pomfret here is majestic in looks and taste.Roti boti is chicken tikka served with naan. Tikka was yummy but the naan tasted salty. But we loved their mains especially chicken briyani and their Mutton kheema dosai. Also their all day English breakfast was delicious – includes cheese omlette, sausages, potatoes, toast and tea /coffee.And coming to desserts – again they exceeded our expectations. We loved their ice golas, caramel custard, mawa cake and blueberry cheese cake. Especially their kulfis have such rich flavour.Overall we loved the main course and desserts.. Starters need improvement as some items were more salty.Must try – chicken briyani, Mutton kheema dosai, kulfi falooda, English breakfastService – service was prompt. But felt the waiters could be more informative about the dishes.Pricing – the briyani price was higher than other similar restaurants . Other items were priced nominally. And worth it.Good hangout place for families and friends with yummy dishes.RATING – 4/5AMBIENCE – 5/5FOOD- 4/5SERVICE – 4/5PRICING – 4.5/5
This place serves best mumbai style food. Ambience is pretty nice and quite place. Best place to spend quality time.I tried Chicken Kheema which was served with two Pav and onion.I will surely recommend you to try Sonia Gandhi Prawns and Tandoori chicken. Chicken was fresh and perfectly cooked with tandoori flavour.Sonia Gandhi prawns was something different. Prawns mixed with some white sauce of pasta. It was a fusion of Italian and Indian taste. Mohammed Ali Road Seekh Kebab is little dry but a perfect flavour.I tried caramel custard and dry fruit falooda for dessert. Which was perfect sweet end to my visit.
