This used to be a good place to have Bengali food couple of months back. However its quality of food and service has deteriorated drastically. First thing you will notice is that the staff will take your order and then he will try to sell you sweets or snacks by talking nicely with you. You will feel elevated that you are being given a lot importance. Hold on!!! He does this with everyone and you will realize that he is just selling the food. Don’t fall into the trick of eating any chat items here as they are not worth it. Instead try the chat shops outside this joint. They are better.Non-veg food is good. Only catch is that it is too oily and the quality would really depend upon the mood of the cook. If he is in the right mood then you would get decent rolls. They try to also hood wink you into ordering Sunday lunch from them which cost 200/- for some so called fish and rice. Just see their kitchen where they prepare these meals on Sundays and you will loose your appetite. Just go to their kitchen when you visit the place and you might actually loose your appetite. Happened to me last time I went there. Had my food, went to wash my hands and saw how they were preparing the sweets. That was the last time I went there. Period.
Location & Ambience: Located on the choolaimedu high road near Hanifa Supermarket or Chitra Apartment. And it shouldn’t be tough to locate the place. It’s a sweet shop and they are famous for the Bengali sweets; besides the sweets they do sell chats as well as they have a small kiosk outside the outlet where they sell rolls (they have non-veg options as well in their rolls). It would be hard to find a decent parking space near the place and considering it is a main road and one of the busiest roads you can never think about four wheeler parking. Inside the sweet shop you have small dining space and can accommodate 10-12 people. As the place is located on the main roads, the location as a whole looks congested so if you are in for fancy dining then this shouldn’t be your pick.Taste & Variety: This is one shop that sells decent bengali sweets in the locality and I have tried a few of the sweets during my multiple visits. I generally take parcel so I don’t have picture of the sweets. And my favorites are Rasgulla, Sandesh and Chum Chum. They have chats and parathas too but I have not tried them. And in the kiosk outside the shop they make hot and tasty rolls. The chicken and egg rolls are a favourite. The generous filling and the humongous roll would be sufficient to fill you tummy. One roll and you are done for the meal; taste is mediocre though the filling is generous and seasoning is good I have had better rolls in town. But the exciting part is the pricing which is reasonable, a roll costs Rs.25-40 INR. Quality & Quantity: When it comes to quality, my experience has been a mixed bag. They make sweets fresh everyday so if the owner is there they are very friendly and guide you with the best sweet. But there were times when the staffs have sold me a day old sweet and that failed to impress with taste. So if you are buying then make sure you request for fresh product or may be taste them and confirm too before purchasing (for sweets in particular). The portion or size of the sweet or rolls is sufficient to satisfy a person. It’s mostly the quality or consistency for which I have not liked the place. Price: The rolls range from Rs.25-40 INR and the sweets are economical too. For two people Rs.100-200 INR is more than sufficient to enjoy rolls and chats. If you are residing in the vicinity then do check this place out but I wouldn’t consider someone travelling all the way to this place just for the sweets or chats. creatikaa.blogspot.com
A must go place if you want to taste the sweets of Kolkata.Location: In a array of shops in Chitra apartments, near choolaimedu crossing.Ambience: Not properly planned. Better to takeaway food.Rating :1/5Service:Not too good. Sometimes they make you wait longer for snacks like egg role, mughlai etc.Rating:2/5Pricing:Cheap compare to other items in Chennai. But they don’t give proper bills, sometimes added more.I have to pay Rs. 120/- for two pieces of roshogollas!Rating: 0/5Food:Sweets are not fresh always. Sometimes it tastes sour, which clearly indicates that it is well beyond the expiry dates. They even don’t pay attention if you complain about this.Rating:0/5
As this local sweet shop is near my place and i had to take some sweets for my office function i ordered 40 chumchums, The owner had promised to charge Rs10 per sweet but on the day of purchase he charged Rs 550 stating the weight of sweet has to be calculated for pricing. His brother had an argument with him in front of me to increase the price.I would never give any bulk order at this place. POOR BUSINESS ETHICS.Have had better chumchum at Pondicherry local shops.
This place seems grossly under rated. It has,I think, they have the best rossogollas in town and their singharas(bengali samosas) taste yummy and just like they should.Too bad I discovered this place on the last day of my trip to Chennai- just can’t wait to visit Chennai again and try out more of their Bengali dishes.
I was planning to go there but i did not have much expectations. But surprisingly this place is good. The place is little congested. But thankfully they have AC. I have ordered samosa chat, gobhi paratha, aalo paratha and as per owners suggestion a sweet called “Chamcham”. Samosa chat and aalo parathas were good. Gobhi parathas were excellent. But the chamcham was awesome. I don’t eat sweets much but this sweet was very good. The prices were very economic. This all item cost me just 165rs. Service was good. I am sure I will visit them again.
Used to be my regular dinner place for many days. The chapathis and paratha’s are really good. Aloo and paneer paratha’s are really tasty. There is only limited seating, the only disadvantage. Milk sweets are good.
