Went on a Friday evening, hoping it might not have much crowd and I was quite surprised to find the place was packed. Thankfully got a place in minutes. The place and ambience is really well lit and neatly done. It took the waiters to take atleast 10-15 mins to come and offer a menu though. The menu though looked fancy had far too less vegetarian options.except for a burger, sandwich or a pizzalette (a square shaped pizza) and a burnt garlic fried rice there wasn’t much to choose from. Probably not the kind of elaborate dinner I was looking for. Ordered the Brocolli soup and a pizzalette and a fried rice. The soup was okayish and seemed less even for a half a portion. The pizza thing, served second time was hot and crispy and was very good. The fried rice was super bland and you can have it only if you have a generous serving of ketchup or a side dish.Didn’t wanted to experiment for dessert and left the place. Overall a 3/5 muralikarthik.in
This place was on my bookmark list for a while just waiting for that fine day to happen. When couple of my besties decided to catch up after a long time, it seemed like a perfect occasion to be here. We unanimously agreed to meet at Canvas for dinner and it turned out to be a very memorable evening for all of us. This is a great place to catch up with long conversations and some yummy food. Menu: 4.5/5 The menu is so extensive. They serve everything that you may ever want to have – from soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pasta to meal bowls, oriental and even desi delicacies like briyanis and makhni gravies. They have a great breakfast menu, an extensive selection of unique tees, freshly brewed coffees and beverages and specially curated desserts and sorbets. You will be so spoilt for choices here. The menu will blow you down with all the assortment it has to offer. Ambience: 5/5 The ambience is outstanding! It is simply picture perfect and completely justifies the name, it is just like a beautifully done canvas painting. Be it the delightful paintings on all walls, aesthetically done upholstery that compliments the colour theme so well, large glass windows that let in bright light and radiate so much positivity or the small planters on each table for that touch of greenery, this is definitely one of those places where the ambience is bound to sweep you off. A place where you will want to go back just for the ambience. This place brings so much positive vibes. Taste: 4.5/5 The order: Mushroom frappe soup, Quesadilla veg, Mediterranean pizzettes, Grilled chicken panini, Tagliatelle al funghi, Vegan Asian curried veg rice bowl, orange almond cake. Personally, I love mushrooms and for me the soup was good. It was runny and frothy in consistency, more like a frappe, that you could directly drink it from the cup. It was a bit bland, so I had to add some more seasoning to suit my liking. The quesadilla was soft and creamy. The salsa and guacamole that came along was so tasty. I was trying pizzettes for the first time. This is like pizza on a crispy flat bread base. Nothing outstanding on that. The grilled chicken panini was very good. The quantity was huge, and my friend seemed to have liked it. I did not taste that one though. The vegan Asian curried rice bowl was very well done and tasted delicious. It was loaded with fresh veggies, perfectly seasoned and had amazing flavours of basil, lemongrass and chillies. We loved this one, but the start of the meal was Tagliatelle Al Funghi. This pasta was simply amazing. The pungent truffle oil flavours were infused in every bite and the mushrooms only made it tastier. I was totally impressed with it and this was one of the best I have ever had. I could just not get over how tasty it was and would certainly go back just for the pasta. The orange almond cake was equally good as well. It was so moist and filled with tangerine flavours yet very light on the tummy. Just the way I like desserts! Overall the food was very very good and satisfying. Service: 4/5 The service was extremely good. The staff were very polite and courteous. The food was served without any delays. They always ensured we were comfortable and were readily available for any requests. At the end, the waitress patiently cleared up our bill with 4 cards as we dutched the total. We spent quite a good amount of time talking and eating, yet nobody disturbed us. A very friendly service on the whole.Value for money: 3.5/5 For the full order including taxes, the bill summed up to Rs. 2779 for four of us. Surely this is not on the economical side but, definitely a good fine dining experience that is worth trying for the ambience and food. My take: Very rarely do we find places that have a stunning ambience as well as amazing food. If one of the two were good, the other may let us down. But Canvas is an exception. A picturesque restaurant with great food that will make your dining experience memorable. Be it your next dinner date or family lunch or just those casual meetings with a bunch of friends, this place is highly recommended. And yes, I am going back for that pasta!
Canvas by sketch is an art cafe located in Alwarpet opposite Ethiraj Kalyana Mandapam. An aesthetically appealing cafe worth trying. Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner with family. What I ordered :1) Loaded Chicken Nachos 2) Crispy lamb (a must try)3) Mamak mee goreng (a must try)4) Fish sizzler5) Hot chocolate (a must try)6) Naughty choco smoothieThe drinks – the hot chocolate here is one of the best in the city. It had two cute little marshmallows to accompany it. The drink had the perfect amount of chocolate and sweetness to it , not making it bitter and overpowering with sweetness. The naughty choco smoothie was really good as well. The starters – the loaded nachos was really good. The salsa and guacamole were the perfect accompaniments to it. It was truly loaded with cheese, chicken and kidney beans hence keeping up to the name. It was a little bland and I just wish the quantity of nachos was a bit more making it a wonderful treat to share and eat. The crispy lamb was really good as well. It had the perfect amount of crisp to it along with an amazing taste, making it a must try here. The main course – Mamak mee goreng is something I order very regularly anywhere. A noodle dish packed with so much flavour, this dish is totally worth trying here. The fish sizzler was really nice as well. For those who enjoy sumptuous meals and have good appetite will definitely enjoy this. The ambience, like I said before is beautiful. The painting on the walls and the ornaments have a really good contrast to them and are eye catching. The service was really good. The staff were courteous, friendly, responsive and brought the food on time with no delays. However I was disappointed with the seating here. Inspite of booking a table here I got a seat right next to the restroom and kitchen door, making the dining experience a little uncomfortable. The acoustics need a lot of improvement as well. An art cafe worth trying and a good place to hang out with a bunch of friends.
So here’s what generally happens. Either the places is god damn pretty and serves below average food, or the place is an average nook, with decent food. Very rarely have I seen a place that looks as good as the food it serves. But we don’t need to wait no more – cuz Canvas is the prettiest place in town, with an extensive menu – of which everything we tried was a 10-on-10! TLDR: Go here on your next date/ family meal/hangout with friendsSunday afternoon lunch with a few friends was decided to happen at Canvas. It’s so bright – it will brighten up your mood (such places usually have this effect on me). In fact, I cannot emphasize enough – how much I liked the decor at this place. Their service is equally pleasing. They ensure you’re comfortable – and pleased throughout with their courteous service. So now, on to the food. As mentioned earlier, they have an extensive menu which could leave you confused. After a few rounds of to and fro, we went ahead and ordered – Hot chocolateVietnamese shakeratoMediterranean pizzetteBurrata salad, and a portion of garlic cheese bread for starters. I’m very critical when it comes to hot chocolate, and very few places manage to impress me. I’d say – Canvas does a fine job at delivering a cup of joy. I liked the pizzette too – topped well, with a drizzle of dressing, crisp bite sized slices. The burrata was fresh and creamy. I’m not a fan of garlic bread, but my friends loved it.While we did order main course, we were all so full by the time they came – that we didn’t fully relish it. But – lemme tell you, they were nothing less! The paneer shawarma is worth every dime, with the oh-so-soft wrap, and the creamy filling. The chicken steak – was so well cooked, it was falling off the bones, with flavour in each bite. The burger looked delicious – but we simply couldn’t make space for it! For another time, then!I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! somedaytimes.wordpress.com
A pretty looking place which is currently the talk of the Town. The hype behind the place drew me here, and the Ambience was on point. The food was pretty average for the prices. But it is a chill place for friends to hangout. Do go with reservations.
Came here from my mom birthday. Had high expectations but we’re disappointed at the end! Started of with crispy lamb but they were hard to chew. Next in line were the prawn dimsum, the prawns itself lacked flavour. Moving on to the main course. We had Sloppy Joe, Burnt Garlic Fried Rice ( which had no burner flavour it was just normal rice) with Kung Pao Chicken which was decent. I had the Nasi Goreng where it was lacking that punching flavour. Upon booking I had requested for a compliment birthday cake which I didn’t receive. Plus points for the ambient!
