Situated opposite to the main entrance of the Kapalishwarar Temple, a small decent mess which is run by a Brahmin and typical Brahmin food is served here. Went on a weekday almost deserted, only a couple of tables were occupied. Ordered Sambar Rice and Curd Vadai, Tasted good.Location – 4.0/5.0; Ambience – 3.5/5.0; Food – 3.5/5.0; Service – 3.5/5.0; VFM -3.5/5.0 vijayslsl.wordpress.com
This place is right behind the famous Kappaleshwara temple at Mylapore.Visited this place with my friends on Sunday Early morning. The Restaurant is highly traditional right from entrance. The Ambience makes it very clear that they are going to serve traditional Tamil Brahmin breakfast. The food is served on a banana leaf.We ordered Onion vada, Ghee Podi Dosa, Pongal, Poori, Idly, Medu Vada and Coffee. The one thing that I observed is the way they handle Food, they give the respect it deserves. The food is Good, Dosa was brilliant, Pongal was decent, Poori with Allu Curry was great, Idly ND Medu Vada was also good. But the best part was South Indian Filter Coffee. Brilliant! One thing which can be improved is the Hygine of the surroundings like Tables which were not clean.Definitely must visit!!..Bill value : 900 for 5 peopleFood 4.5/5Ambience 4/5Service 4.4/5Cleanliness 3/5Value for Money 4/5.Overall 4/5
One of the oldest mess in mylapore serving South Indian delicacies. Remember, it’s a mess. So, don’t expect too spicy or oily items. The dishes are more often bland than expected, giving a homely experience. It’s a small place with limited AC dining. It’s in a congested area with almost no parking. Not suitable for leisure dining. Good place, if you want a quick, authentic South Indian dine. Sambar doesn’t taste like routine stuff, what you see in conventional hotels. It tastes like a pitlai. Mor kozhambu vadai was good. Coffee was a big let down as we expected a decoction filter coffee, but machine coffee was served. Worth visiting though.
Famous haunt around Mylapore, located very close to Kapaleeshwarar Temple. They have both AC and Non AC dining, and the costs vary accordingly. Typical south indian dishes like different types of dosas, vada, upma and pongal are served with chutney sambar. I had the vazhaipoo vada. It was tasty but could have been served hotter. The badam halwa is one of my hot favourite here. The prices of the dishes are now higher compared to what it was earlier.
