The minute you enter Tamak, you feel spacious ! The large open kitchen and the ambience makes you comfortable as you settle down for a meal. We ordered a fair deal of vegetarian starters1. Paneer Malai Tikka – Large chunks. Fairly soft but chewy (a bit of let down). Would have loved it more if it was marinated longer to make it more rich. (3/5)2. Achari Broccoli – Fresh & loved the way it was grilled, perfect. On the spicy side of the scale. Loved the way the chef had made a creative dish by bringing together an unusual combo of achari & brocolli. (3.5/5)3. Grilled Pineapple Tikka – The best of the lot. Perfectly marinated & grilled. A dish in my opinion made popular by the likes of Absolute BBQ. The chef nailed it at Tamak. Must order if pineapple suits your taste palette. (4/5)For the main course, I ordered an oriental dish to get a flavor of their Japanese style of cooking. Yasai Itame is a bowl of fresh crunchy vegetables tossed in Japanese style. Served the purpose of a healthy main course. One of those dishes where (in my opinion) the chef couldnt go wrong. One thing that would have made me give higher scores is a technique of cooking that would got the sauces to blend well with the veggies. Give it a shot if you are looking for a simple ‘stir fry veggie bowl’ kinda main course (3.5/5)Tamak, stands out for its spacious and well organized restaurant space. My friends loved most of the dishes they ordered. The Chinese food, specially wontons stood out distinctively. So did the warqi paratha & nalli nihari combo that my friend relished, in its entirety. While 3.25 on 5 is my initial thought, I’m going with 3.75 considering the quality of food that my friends enjoyed in the table.Ajit Induchudan Nikita Mulchandani
Having heard such great things about Tamak from my fellow foodies my expectations were set pretty high and they did live up to my expectations. Located inside the Features Hotel in Manapakkam, this luxury property has a lot to offer. Apart from ‘Tamak’ a casual eatery and cocktail bar, they have ‘Waterside’ an informal yet stylish all-day dining restaurant, ‘Skyloft’ a rooftop restaurant with breath-taking views of our city or just unwind and relax at their Spa. Tamak is a spacious restaurant with tastefully done up interiors and a live kitchen bang in the centre of the restaurant for us to see where all the action takes places. THE FOODOur meal started with an amuse bouche of a good portion of crumb fried cheese served with mint chutney and a refreshing welcome drink. The service was very quick and the starters began arriving soon. First up was Anda Parata a very popular dish from the streets of Delhi. Anda paratas are usually triangular pockets containing a mixture of beaten eggs, onions and green chilies. An absolute delight for anyone who loves eggs. I personally felt that the stuffing needed a tad bit more salt, but when eaten along with pickle, it is just delicious. What really is interesting about Tamak is that their menu is well curated with dishes from different parts of the globe which is very convenient. For instance if I am in the mood for some kebabs but also want to have some Asian food and a friend wants to have some tempura, we can get everything under one roof at Tamak.Love how they had used liquid nitrogen to freeze a ball of yoghurt and tossed in some Sev with katta meeta chutney. When you break open the sphere and take a bite of everything, the frozen yoghurt instantly melts in your mouth combining the flavours together. Love the whole concept. The Malai Paneer tikka was soft and seasoned very well unlike some bland versions that I have had before. Each lofty piece was stuffed with some nuts and dried fruits which added some texture.Another dish that I enjoyed to bits was the sesame cake stuffed with a dry preparation of minced mutton. It is like an open bao concept and the minced mutton stuffing with soy sauce was delicious. Just Loved it. Their ‘meal in a bowl’ concept is really nice. Stir fried morning glory in a weak broth was served with some steamed jasmine rice. While we enjoying the crunchy morning glory, the heat in the broth started getting to us. I was not sure if it was the broth or if morning glory has that biting pungent flavour like ginger. Nevertheless it tasted so good. For those of you who love Thai cuisine this is a great choice. We were also served a portion of Sannas with Prawn Ambotik. Sannas, a goan variation of our humble idlys were extremely soft and airy. This style of prawn curry is usually made with coconut milk and was in the right consistency not too thick nor weak, just right to enjoy the sannas with it. Bite size portions of omelettes was served along with this dish topped with a piece of prawn coated with onion masala. The menu calls this ros omelete where in ‘ros’ denotes the gravy which is poured over the omelette, but what was served with our dish was nothing similar to that so I was confused. Regardless of how it was served, the whole dish was very tasty and we polished it off clean.DESSERTSWhen it was time for desserts, the Matcha tiramisu took me by surprise. Not only did the green tea powder lend a beautiful shade of green to the dessert, but it had also balanced the sweetness. For someone like me who likes desserts moderately sweet, this was just perfect. I felt the flavour of matcha had been used to its advantage here which makes it a must try dessert here. We finished our meal with a simple Triple Chocolate Mousse (dark, milk and white) with berry compote presented so elegantly. IN A NUTSHELLA kind of place for people like me who just loves food and is always in search of new, innovative dishes with good quality ingredients and a diverse menu.
As we entered the restaurant i was drawn by it’s soothing ambience which was very nice to have after a long week. The waiter who served our table was very polite and friendly. When asked for his recommendations he was prompt and really helped us out. The food was also a very soothing experience overall. We ordered steamed wontons, crispy scallion sesame cake and achaari broccoli. All of the small plates were really good and we were even surprised with a complementary fried wonton. For main course we had stir fried greens with assorted mushrooms along with jasmine rice. The vegetables were soft and boiled and the rice was amazing in flavour. To top it all of we had a really good deserts. We had triple chocolate mouse, churros, chocolate eclair and honey nut ice-cream. Honey nut was an instant hit at our table that we ordered one more. This was all in all a worthwhile experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant a visit
When I think of a restaurant in town with spectacular Asian food with great service, Tamak will always pop into my mind first. I love greasy Chinese food and it’s so easily available but when it comes to gourmet Asian food, there are very few restaurants that serve dishes that are not just delicious but of great quality as well. And Tamak’s food nails both quality and taste of Asian gourmet. AmbianceThe first thing you’ll notice when you enter is how spacious the place is. Its all glass and soft lights. The entire floor is split into sections and I think that’s a great idea. There’s so much space between tables and this ensures ample privacy. But the highlight of their ambiance has got to be that bustling open kitchen. On one side there’s the energy in the kitchen and on the other there’s soft light and flowing music. The whole place is a vibe in its own.Food Now coming to the main part. We sampled a number of items from their menu and here’s my take on them Makhmali Tikki : like the name suggests , these are bite sized tikkis that melt in your mouth. It’s got Indian flavours. Tibetan thukpa : we tried both the veg and the chicken thukpas and this was a warm hug in a bowl. The most flavourful thukpa I’ve ever had. If you love your thukpa then this is a must tryShitake mushroom sesame cake : it took me a while to cut this open and take a bite simply because of how pretty it looked. And once I did take a bite I simply couldn’t put my fork down. I highly recommend you try this. The crust is perfection , love the bite the sesame seeds add to this and the mushroom filling has a rich flavour. Prawn wontons : packed with flavour , absolutely delicious.Anda paratha : I am not a paratha person but this dish pleasantly surprised me. The anda adds this unique flavour to the crunchy paratha. Iranian lamb kebab: seasoned to perfection , full of flavour, moist and juicy like a kebab should be Shanghai rice is a spiced chilli bean sauce : a bowl of comfort food but done up in a gourmet style. It’s a burst of flavours in the mouth. The flavoured sauce compliments the sticky perfectly. And it comes in a huge portion. Matcha tiramisu : creamy tiramisu flavoured with refreshing matcha , I mean it doesn’t get better than this. Drinks :Their drinks are inspired by Namma Chennai and named after some iconic localities in the city. I legit spent a good amount of time just reading their menu and being amazed. I tried Purasavakam and it was as good as a cocktail can get! I highly highly recommend Tamak to anyone who loves modern Indian , Japanese , Chinese or just Asian food and try it out even if you’re not into Asian cuisine cuz I’m sure the food here will convert you 🙂
Visited Tamak after seeing their Pan Asian Menu, and chose to try Japanese Cuisine. We really loved how the authentic taste was kept intact and presentation was just amazing. We ordered Tibetan Thukpa, Karikari Sarada, Assorted Vegetables Tempura, Bbq Eryghi Mushroom, Saseme cake – Shittake Mushroom, Fuji Furai. Karaikari Salad just stole our heart, its crunch and taste was really very good.Special mention to the Anda Paratha which was better than what we get in Delhi. Loved it. For desserts we had triple chocolate mousse. It had three layers of chocolate with crunch in the end.Ambience was decent and sophisticated and the service was great. We strongly recommend Tamak for a lavish dining experience.
Tamak is a spectacular fine lifestyle dining located inside the Feathers, Ramapuram. Plethora of options that are available makes it a place for Global cuisine since they have various cuisine involved in their menu. A spacious, vibrant 80 seater interior set up that has a lounge seating as well.A lot of creativity and effort has been gone into it be it the menu or the detailing with the dishes that’s done. They also have a good variety of cocktails that can be chosen while you relish their delicacies. Coming to what I tried, Started with mocktails Sungudi and Thanjavur. The former one being a watermelon based drink and the latter one being a pineapple based drink. I loved the presentation of Sungudi. Amuse bouche was crispy fried lotus stem, that was very good pleasing. I’m someone who’s very skeptical about lotus stem, but this one is definitely a good choice.Next dish to arrive at our table was a Rangoli Chaat. Very colourful and an eye pleasing and dish. Deep frozen valllof yoghurt served along with Papdi. I tad bit felt the papad to be a bit less, but then taste wise it was really good and went well.Tibetian Thukpa was the next one. I’m a person who doesn’t prefer soup until and unless I have a soar throat, because I always believed soup fills the tummy and i can’t eat more of the mains. This one had real good flavour, and I’m still craving for more of this. Mildly spiced yet a delish.Sesame cake was my instant favourite. The meat was well done. It might look like a slider, but very filling. One of the star dishes of that evening. My friend enjoyed this more than me by having one extra piece of it :(Chikin katsu is yet again an obsession. Fried chicken in Japanese style, perfectly crispy and golden brown. This is must try.Anda Paratha was something that I was looking forward to when i was informed that’s what was going to arrive. The presentation was really funky. Sliced into triangle pieces stuffed with savoury egg. The texture was spot on, flaky and more of chur chur paratha style. Typical delhi gali wale parantha, Tasted great with aachar.Shanghai rice chicken, flavourful sticky rice served with Chicken tossed with some Soy sauce, which was sweet and delicious.Udon noodles, another Japanese favourite of mine which was done well. I usually prefer this because of the wheat and protein present in it. Loved it here.Coming to the most favorite part of the meals, for which I couldn’t – Desserts!!Matcha Tiramisu – well, this is something that’s unique. Unlike the usual tiramisu made with coffee, this one is a burst of flavours made using matcha green tea and soju. The essence of alcohol in it can be perfectly felt making this and elegant dish.Chocolate eclair – yet an a different eclair which is completely done with chocolate. What Iiked about this is, the chocolate is midly sweet and didn’t over power. I could keep having more of it, yet didn’t miss the chance of licking the plate clean ;)In a nutshell, Tamak is a dining that comes under a budgeted places as the rates are not to high. The dishes are priced between INR 200-250. Every dish here has its own way of it being presented uniquely. Service was top noch, brownie points for the service. The steward had a good knowledge of the menu and the dishes served . Another plus here is that it has a live, see through kitchen yet the aroma stays in without disturbing one’s presence. Definitely, one place to visit if you’re going on a date with your special one. missenthucutlet.wordpress.com
Tamak is hosted inside feathers, a star property at Ramapuram. Have heard loads of good reviews about this place, but somehow missed it ! Once I tried it I regretted so much for not being there before ! Tamak has already entered my standard list of ‘Recommended’ restaurants in Chennai ! From the ambiance, food and service, loved every bit of my experience !Few positives I loved – A range of menu consisting both Indian and Asian cuisine, both were equally good and equal importance for both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes ! Also all the dishes are not very pricey, comparing to other star properties. This is such a win – win option for amazing food under a budget.Spacious dining area with a see – through kitchen. Comfortable and cozy seatings, with moderately dim lights. Our starters were proceeded by amuse bouche – a spiced pineapple topping over bread. Mild and apt to start the heavy lunch aheadFor starters we opted for steamed wontons chilli oil – Prawn – crunchy prawns inside the dumplings were fresh and tasty, the chilli oil was addictive and damn good ! Definitely recommendedAnd paratha – a chef special, is sure to win everybody’s heart, comes with pickle. The paratha was perfectly made and damn those layers ! Loved it. Was extremely happy with the texture and taste.Tenderloin kushiyaki – meat was succulent and the soy based sauce and toppings were YummmRangoli chaat – was such a delight to the eyes. Extremely great presentation, only thing was I felt the quantity of dahi was too much and the pappad was so little. But both went really well together.Noodles – Stir fry with Morning Glory, enoki and shimeji mushrooms – TOTALLY LOVED THIS ONE ! exotic mushrooms made it so special and the sauce was unique and yumm another much recommended dish. For desserts we had the triple chocolate mousse – felt the berry compote was a little overpowering and that the dark chocolate part of the mousse was a little harder. But tasted really good !Matcha tiramisu – was the star of the lunch ! I totally loved the matcha flavor, the eclair was perfectly made. I’d certainly be back for more matcha. Unlike the regular tiramisu, it’s not made by coffee instead it is green tea based ! Loved this innovation and the taste and texture was so inviting and so deliciousFor drinks I tried a watermelon spiced mocktail and a pineapple based mocktail, needless to say loved both. Refreshing and flavorful indeed.Bottom line – A much recommended place, and my recent favorite !
