The night before I was supposed to checkout of the hotel, decided to have a family dinner there.Tried the set menu there – Diwan E Khass. It started with a soup. Mulligatawny Soup. Not sure how it actually supposed to taste like, but I loved it. The dal, mashed with right amount of spices and a few grains of cooked rice. The appetizers were great. The main course also. Had the non vegetarian food with the rotis and tried the dal and kadhi pakodi with rice. Awesome. Then came the dessert. The kulfi was great. The jalebi smelt a bit odd, maybe the oil. Overall – Had a great experience.
Went to Jamvar on 16th December, 2020. Horrible service left much to be desired. Had gone with family to celebrate a special occasion. Everything was delayed and the food arrived cold (literally). The pre fixe menu had items that tasted very very ordinary. The naans were cold and hard. The server perhaps did not understand how to serve rice. He took rice and tried to mix something in an empty vessel and served us literally 3 spoons of rice each. The side were ordinary at best perhaps because they were served cold. Only good thing were the appetizers. I did leave you guys with a tip. Please hire some new servers. People you have aren’t cutting it and I ain’t coming back ever to this place.
Went here on 16th December’19 for my anniversary and was sorely disappointed. We ordered the set menu veg option. The starter with the paneer tikka left much to be desired. The paneer was not of good quality. The thayir vadai was so average. Frankly felt a simple south Indian restaurant in the city serves better thayir vadai. Aloo tiki was good though and was the saving grace.Main course was3 kinds of mixed veg subji and kal dosai and roti and some jeera rice. The 3 subjis were generic with no flavour to talk about. The black daal was excellent and was flavorful. The kal dosai was nothing to rave about. The jeera rice had uncooked clumps that were scraped from the pan sort of.The dessert rasalamai was excellent though.Over all for the price paid and experience we expected, this was a very disappointing visit. Average tasting food.
Situated on the level below lobby, it an a beautiful place. We tried the set menu – vegetarian and non vegetarian. Some of the items were just amazing such as Pomfret fish chicken while few others were below average such as fried babycorn and lotus stem sabji. Overall I expected much more from this place given the legendary name and exobirant price.
The Leela Palace Chennai is an imposing structure tucked away in a quiet lane admits the hustle of the city. The hotel chain is know for its splendour and the same can be said for the Leela Chennai. It exudes luxury and class, boasts of a fabulous ambiance and top notch service. But unfortunately these are the only positives I can think of. This evening my family and I picked Jamavar, to dine at. The restaurant in itself is beautiful with subdued lights and pleasing decor The food on the other hand was anything but pleasant. Calling the food average would be an over exaggeration. We we disappointed from the beginning to the end. I personally do not mind paying a lot for food, given the food tastes good. The entire experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. Or maybe it’s the after taste of the foodI would not recommend the restaurant to anyone
