This bakery has been existing much before as I know it from a kid . Now the shop is in the opposite side from its earlier location and I used to see them bake with firewood . I recollect the 3 brothers who managed the whole show well and also used to interact with all the customers at a personal level . The main take away to date is the bread and buns . Nothing to touch the taste and softness . I also used to love the Kara biscuits . I believe they have opened a couple of branches in Chennai .

Since my school days it has been a favourite. Their hot plain & plum cakes are too good. There are many spicy biscuit varieties too. A bakery from the British era.

Food: 8.5/10Service: 8.0/10Ambiance: 7.5/10Value For Money: 8.0/10Smithfield Bakery @ Perambur barracks road in Purasawakam. Had to try this place after having dinner at Shree Konar Vilas since there was no desserts there. It is neighbor building to the hotel. Its a small bakery but the aroma once you enter it is surely tempting. Heard its a very old bakery and has quality has high standards. Tried banana cake & carrot cake- was lusciousin taste.Black forest truffle was creamy and chocolaty. They do have lot of stuffs like range of biscuits & breads, donuts cream, crispy puff, fresh cream cakes and cup cakes. Also saw celebration cakes .

I came to know about this place through an article in newspaper with places almost a decade no a century old in the city. On further search was surprised to see it was just 10 mins from my place. The time being Christmas and I already was looking for the best plum cake i could get and fortunately happened to know this place. I was not surprised about the taste being so good since its almost 130 yrs old place but was definitely amazed. Now this will be my go to place whenever I want to have some plum cake esp. when Christmas is around. 4.5/5.

Few places/restaurants speaks for itself and stands as a landmark. Smith field bakery stands as a landmark in Perambur barracks road. People in and around the locals must sure knew this place, and it ages more than a century, yes it’s not a decade it’s a century. My dad used to take to this place when I was a kid and I love the Ghee biscuit, crispy coconut biscuit and the 8 shaped puff biscuit. Earlier it used to be in the exact opposite direction of the road of where it is now. Even now, whenever I get time used to step in here. Though it’s a very small place, it’s a delight to step in and see the biscuits placed in glass jar and the best part is the taste still remains the same. During my recent visit, I got hold of my favourite Ghee and coconut biscuit. Not to mention the cup cake and I love it. This time as an additional bonus found the Vintage eastern jam still being sold here and got one!!Few places are always nostalgic and reminisces the good old days as kid and Smithfield bakery is one among them.I would always step in here to get the effervescent baking smell and to grab out their pastries.. Would obviously turn out to be a kid onceagain re-visiting my childhood. Please do try this lovely bakery!!!!VFM – 5/5Quality – 4/5Taste – 4/5
