Trying out new cuisines and scouting food seems at the top of the priority list for most foodies. The exposure to different cultures and cuisines through frequent traveling, media, and the internet has instilled an interest in regional and ethnic cuisines. People are now obsessed with the idea of exploring the gastronomical journey. This makes them curious and open to new options than the same old delights. This nature is the primary influencing factor in predicting the food trends of 2020. Hyderabad has witnessed a drastic change in food trends, beyond just basic mainstream cuisine, which has been a welcome change for restaurateurs giving them a chance to experiment. Previously any restaurant that served food outside mainstream Indian, Italian or Chinese was not immediately well accepted. The old rule of sticking to these mainstream cuisines to be safe and ensure your food establishment works is slowly changing. Telugu cuisine is best known for its spiciness and different flavor combinations. But it is not all Hyderabadi Biryani and Andhra Chilly Chicken; rather Telugu cuisine offers a myriad of options for every taste buds– from extremely healthy to the decadent ones. Karalu Miriyal, also called The House of Spices, is one such casual dining restaurant which is located in the most popular 100ft Road in Madhapur which is the home to a variety of North Indian street food as well. Karalu Miriyal aims at providing its patrons some of the best authentic and traditional Telugu cuisines in Hyderabad. As you enter the place, the decor, lights & woodwork immediately takes you back to an Old South Indian traditional house but on a bigger scale. From the nicely done woodwork of window panes, wooden chairs to the well-lit open space, the Team has left no stone unturned to give this place a homely touch.Starting off the dinner, we had some Paya Shorba which could have been a bit milder & less salty, however, the spices were right in place infused into the mutton chunk. From the appetizers, we started with some delectable Mutton Ghee Roast cooked well till perfection & we couldn’t ask more for a better start. Next up was Royyala Vepudu, which is Shrimp chunks fried and tossed with in-house spices & packed with flavor. Paneer Kebab followed next which had an apt balance of flavors done in the marination of paneer chunks kebab’ed till perfection & tasted really great. Next up we got Chepa Vepudu, which was a delicious appetizer where the Basa fish was tossed with a spicy Andhra delicacy of ground vepudu karam masala well roasted. Miriyal Kodi Vepudu & Pineapple Chekulu was served up next, the kodi vepudu tasted heavenly as the chicken chunks were tossed with the in-house spices of this place; a recommended appetizer from the menu, on the contrary, the Pineapple was way high in the spice levels which could have been controlled so that it can be savoured by everyone easily & also can be great appetizer. Among the sangatis, I tried the Non-veg sangati which had sangati mixed with minced mutton chunks and spices and a generous amount of cashew with the taste and texture very good and satisfying. Among the rice items, we had got Vangi bath, Lollipop Biryani & Natu Kodi Pulao, all of them were aptly cooked however the natu Kodi pulao could have been controlled on the spice levels, as well as the masala given in the lollipop biryani, could have been a bit lesser in spice level, however, it tasted really great; this can be a recommended mains dish. Ending the course on a sweet note with Matka Phirni, a really great sweet dish to end your platter with & which gave us a delightful end to our meal. If you want to witness the exotic spices and flavors of the Telugu cuisine, Karalu Miryal should be your go-to place. Located at the most accessible location of Madhapur, Karalu Miriyal makes sure none of the techies and families miss out on the authentic and traditional Telugu foods in Hyderabad.
The trends of various different cuisines are picking up, like Asian and Arabian cuisine. Another cuisine which recently is becoming everyone’s favourite is the Authetic Telugu Cuisine.’Karalu Miriyal’ is a recently opened place where authentic telugu food is served. As South, especially Andhra, is the leading producers of red chillies which makes the cuisine very rich and spiciest in the world.First impression is the decor, where South Indian simplicity is reflected. The place is very spacious and the most importantly, it’s hygiene factor is amazing. I must say, they are focusing on neatness very well. When it comes to food, we started with• Paya Shorba : Flavoursome soup made with lamb trotters. This is used as a remedy to have a quick recovery from common cold. It is cooked till the flavours are infused in the broth. Taste was good but I felt it was towards the salty side.• Nannari : Well, there are ‘x’ number of mocktails out there but nothing can beat Nannari. Roots are heated at a very high temperature till its juice is extracted, then it is mixed with soda and served chilled. For starters, we had• Royalla Vepudu : These are fried prawns, one of my favourites. This dish is a simple preparation with easily available ingredients to retain the flavour of sea food. Crispy and tasty. I loved it.• Paneer Kebab : I was not very satisfied with its taste.• Pineapple Cheekulu : Grilled pineapple tossed in spices and peri peri sprinkled on top. This was way too spicy. If the spice level is decreased, it could be a perfect start.• Mutton Roast : Full of flavours and perfectly marinated. Tasted really nice.Coming to main course• Kheema Sangati : This was the star of the night. Mutton meat cooked with spices and garnished with dry fruits. Very tasty and would recommend this to everyone. It’s also available in veg.• Chittimuthyala Nati Kodi Pulao : Country chicken cooked in amazing and well flavoured Chittimuthyala rice.• Lollipop Biryani : Biryani covered with chicken lollipop. The chicken is cooked in Indo – Chinese style. Little spicy but that is how it is supposed to be for it’s taste to be enhanced. For dessert, we had• Matka Phirni. I love desserts. The phirni didnt disappoint me.Over all, the food was good. As it is South Indian food, expect the spice level to be a little high. If you love spicy food, then this place won’t disappoint you.
Another new stop in Hyderabad, striving to serve authentic Telugu food. Located in 100ft Road, Madhapur, on a stretch that has places that serve North Indian cuisine, Lebanese and fast food; a new restaurant is trying to serve Telugu food like it’s supposed to be. ‘Karalu Miriyalu’ has a moderate, yet authentic menu with items like Royyala Vepudu, Natu Kodi, Keema Sangati, that would grasp the attention of any Telugu food fanatic. The cozy interiors, that add to the whole experience, include paintings and murals which made the whole restaurant look like a spacious village house.Paya Shorba: Stew made with the lamb trotters and flavorful spices. Tasted good but was a bit salty.Nannari : Nannari is a wonder herb from nature that cools down the body heat. I had this at many places, but the one at Karalu Miriyal has won my heart.Starters :Royyala Vepudu : Shallow fried prawns with the basic spices. Simple yet utterly delicious with good spice levels.Pineapple Cheekulu : Grilled pineapple tossed with spices and chat masala. It was too spicy to handle.Chapala Vepudu : Dont go by the name. Its not the authentic fish fry, but a fusion of Indian and Chinese. It tasted heavenly!!Paneer Kebab : Low on spice levels, it tasted pretty decent.Main Course ::Moving on to the main course, we wanted to try the authentic telugu cuisine. Keema Sangati was the star of the night!! Minced mutton cooked with Ragi Sangati and flavourful spices, garnished with a genrous amount of cashews. Too yummy!! Vangi bath and Natu Kodi Biryani were upto the mark. After that, the comfort food, pappuchaaru annam and majjiga chaaru made a good end to the main course.Overall, karalu miriyal justified itself to its name, with proper telugu setup and food.
A new restaurant in the neighborhood went without any expectations but was quite surprised by the neat interiors and spacious restaurant. The staff’s were very friendly as well. Coming to the food, being a small eater just ordered their special veg sangati and what came was a surprise twist to the classic ragi sangati. Sangati mixed with vegetables and spices and generous amount of cashews. The taste and texture was very good and satisfying. Keep up the good work.
