Oh! Calcutta never seems to fail it’s reputation. Have visited it’s counterparts and have always been overwhelmed with their courteous staff, simple yet elegant decor and their mouth watering delicacies. Their seating capacity is limited compared to the demand this place has specially on weekends. I remember going on a Sunday without making a prior reservation which led us to wait for 40 minutes outside Sadly, they don’t have a waiting area inside the premises in particular when the place gets crowded. The decor of this place is simple with a comforting ambience. Coming to the food, my usual favourites are mochar chop, alu posto, daab chingri, koshaa mangsho, bhaja platter and the nolen gurer ice cream. As great the food is, the pricing is always on the higher side.Would always like to come back here for trying delicacies!
You can keep the Bengali out of Bengal, but you cannot keep the Bengal out of the Bengali.I visited Oh Calcutta! in Begumpet twice during Durga Puja 2019 for their special buffet. I was lucky to have experienced both their menus on the two different days. All that I can say is that the food was too good to be true and it kept my sadness of being away from home during the festivities slightly at bay. The fish, the chicken, the mutton, the biriani, the payesh, all reminded me of the food my mother and my grandmother have always cooked at home. Special mention to the aaloo kabli and the fish fry on each of the days. The service was very good too in spite of an overwhelming crowd especially on the second day of my visit, which was Dashami. I wish that Oh Calcutta! in Begumpet would have regular buffets like they do in their counterparts in places like Delhi.
For more food update, follow me on instagram: @Theappetizingfactor It’s monsoon season & for a bengali it means Ilish(Hilsa) season!Ilish, true to its taste is called ‘Queen of Fish’, which bengalis(both from India & Bangladesh) loves. Was craving for this quite some time, when I got invited to try out their new Hilsa Menu.Chef Anjan Chatterjee curated a special menu for this, bringing out the best of the lot.Ambiance:Its situated on the ground floor of the building, which had different restaurants, on each floor. The place is nicely decorated, containing framed pictured of artists on the walls.Food: The special menu consisted of non-veg items. Since, we had one vegetarian with us, got to try some of that as well.In starters:♥ Mochar Ilish ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅♥ Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi kebab ⭐⭐⭐⭐♥ Murshidabadi Murgi Fry ⭐⭐⭐⭐♥ Mochar Chop ⭐⭐⭐♥ Gondhoraj Paneer Tikka⭐⭐⭐⭐Main Course:♥ Bhapa Ilish: The best one ofcourse. The gravy consists of mustard. and the best part was the bones were already taken off. So, mostly who aren’t acquainted with fish, can definitely try it,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅ ♥ Kosha Mangsho: The gravy was a spicy one, tasted really good, but the mutton could been little bit more soft.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅♥ Chingri Malai Curry: Another bengali signature prawn dish. ⭐⭐⭐⭐♥ Hing Aloo Dam: On the sweeter side, but goes well with luchi. ⭐⭐⭐♥ Rajbarir Channa Kofta: It was too sweet for my liking ⭐⭐⭐♥ Luchi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅♥ Steamed RiceDesserts:♥ Chaler Pyesh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✅♥ Sondesh♥ Mishti DoiThe service was very good, the dishes were explained while serving. So, if you want to try out some mouth watering Bengali dish, this is the place to go to!
