Ordered Mutton Nahari, Mutton Korma, Mutton Biryani, Beef Pasanda Kebabs and Shahi Tukda.Mutton Nahari and Korma were extremely soft and tender and tasted delicious. – 5/5Pasanda Kebabs – Juicy and tasteful – 4.5/5Shahi Tukda wasn’t over sweet but tasted average.Downside to the place was the lack of options on the menu.Upside was air conditioning and decent seating area apart from food which is rare in this part of the city.

I usually don’t leave a bad review, but I’ll make an exception this time as it takes a lot of time and effort to visit Old Lucknow eateries if, like me, you stay in Gomtinagar or some such area. I take food more seriously than most people do, and am a regular at Dastarkhwaan, Mubeen’s and Alamgir–three eateries I prefer over Tundey’s as they have better variety and staff. However, if you’re looking for some quiet time and do not want to stand sheepishly near people trying to enjoy their dessert (hoping they will finish fast so you can take their place), you’re forced to try new places. So yesterday, my wife and I decided to try this restaurant called ‘Khatir’ on Akbari Gate. It’s a place that has, unlike other Old Lucknow eateries which bank solely on their food, tried to invest a little on the way it looks. The menu is limited and somewhat mutton-oriented with only a couple of chicken dishes–Tandoori chicken (two kinds), and Zafrani chicken lagan. We ordered the achaari variant of tandoori chiken, pasanda kabab and nahari-kulcha. First came the tandoori chicken (pictured here), which was undeniably stale, way too dry, and loaded with some very salty flavouring. The pieces seemed so shrivelled up that my wife wondered if the chef had tandoor’ed leftovers.Anyway. Next came the pasanda, which was again too salty and sub-average, and put us off so much that we forgot to take any more pictures. The only saving grace was a kulcha that we had with it just to balance out the salt. But then, there’s nothing in a kulcha that you can go wrong with, is there? To save the day, we ended up cancelling the nahari and headed to Alamgir for the rest of our meal.
Nice place in heart of city Lucknow Been there first time with friends Mutton pasanda was really goodAnd mutton biryani was also nice But the nehari was something I really didn’t understand what was it.pathetic taste Very disappointed by nihari Over all good 3.5/5
