A visit to Lucknow could not be complete without experiencing the famous Tunday Kabab, and the search for an authentic version, but made of mutton, led us to Tunday Kababi, which claims to have been established in 1905.The outlet is located on , which is a narrow road in the Aminabad area. The establishment is reasonably clean, but the interiors and arrangements are in the manner of a typical, economically priced super popular eating outlet. The entrance is lined with a display of photographs of famous personalities, mostly from the film industry, with the owner. The mutton Tunday Kababs are small shallow fried portions of ground, spiced and fragrant meat portions which just melt in the mouth. They were followed by Mutton Korma, which consisted of tender pieces of mutton in a spiced gravy, but a little oily. Also on the side was Chicken Tangri Kebab, which were leg pieces stuffed with qeema. These were accompanied with Sheermal and Mughlai Paratha. This was my first encounter with Sheermal, which is type of orange hued bread made out of dough which is prepared with milk, amongst other ingredients. The Special Mughlai Parathas were multilayered breads, which were thin and soft. These were definitely not the Parathas stuffed with egg and qeema, which goes by the same name in Kolkata. In places like this it is often a big problem to cater to members in the group who are vegetarians. But this place did not disappoint us on this account either. They had reasonable options for a vegetarian meal, but of course, not a great variety. We finished off with Awadhi Kheer, which was quite similar to what goes by the name of Firni, in Kolkata.Overall the meal was delicious and very low priced. And in the final test for a good meal, the digestibility, it came out very well too. I guess, the right spices not only makes the food delectable, but also highly digestible.
Any words I use to describe the pathetic food I received would not cut it. I live merely 5 mins distance from the restaurant. The food I received was definitely stale and cold to the bone. THIS IS NOT TUNDAY, don’t be confused. I imagine the only reason they are up and running till now is because of the name. Order at your own health risk.
