This Restaurant is usually shown in almost all Food shows being aired on different channels and I had very high hopes when I visited this place with my family last Sunday. But I was very disappointed with the quality of food which was served. The Mutton curry was tasteless, the Prawn Malai curry was totally flat which they replaced and the rest of the items what we ordered was very ordinary. Very bad experience, probably will never visit again.
I think the sad part was having high expectations about this place. Very ordinary food at exorbitantly high prices and awful services is a undesirable bonus. Shukto served after daal (missed reading the order I guess) never seen chhanar dalna made out of Paneer, over sweetened rui Kalia, cold potato dipped in semi lukewarm hot over cooked kochi patha, even plain rice is super expensive..very late service.. . Not worth spending at all.. No match for 6BP or Aheli..

Our search for authentic bengali food for ashtami lunch with family brought us to kewpie’s. Located behind netaji bhavan this place has a rich heritage. We were a group of 11 people and they provided us a private room which was nice and cosy. Now coming to the food we ordered the pujor thali. Food was nothing extraordinary which was a let down. Moreover the washroom for washing hand was very dirty and they should definitely look into that matter. The staff were very courteous and helpful.
Situated near Elgin road, I had heard a lot about this old joint. But during our first and last visit to this restaurant we were highly disappointed.We had ordered luchi & kosha mangsho along with some other side dish. The food was average, quantity was too low and the prices compared to the quantity was way too high. The restaurant itself is very tiny with a very dirty hand-washing area. The terracotta glasses leaked. Overall wouldn’t want to go back
My visit to this restaurant was at a time when zomato, or rather food blogging, was not a thing. I remember, Kewpies was considered one of the best Bengali restaurants in the city, so me and my family headed there with a couple of guests who had come to the city to visit us.We had ordered the basic vegetarian (niramish) thalis for each individual, and non-vegetarian side dishes separately. The food was good, not exceptional or praiseworthy per se. It filled out tummies.The bill was a bomb, which made the meals seem unsatisfactory in comparison.To sum it up, I’ve never had the urge to visit this eatery again.
I was hunting for an authentic Bengali restaurant, and checked with few people – the one I thought would have discerning taste and deep pockets – in and around the 2 malls in Bhowanipur. Then I reached out to this gentlemen who walked out of Calcutta South Club. He immediately got the point of my enquiry, my emphasis on authenticity, with a lot of conviction he told me to head straight to Kewpie’s. I can’t thank this gentleman enough. Our world need more authentic people and food.
