Straight away as you walk into the restaurant the atmosphere sets the mood of how you’re night is going to be. Expensive and money well spent. Myself and my partner went one Thursday evening not knowing what to expect as this building has changed hands so many times in the past so we went in with an open mind. As soon as we walked in however we were taken back with how sophisticated the place was with a live pianist playing in the corner, dim lighting and stunning French decor. I went for a vine tomato and basil soup to start and my partner went for bruschetta. My soup was served with homemade bread and it was lovely very homemade tasting with a zing from the vine tomatoes that made it a perfect starter. My boyfriends was just as Delish and well made! For main we both went for the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce I got a side of new potatoes and my boyfriend got mash potatoes. The potatoes were lovely and buttery and the meat was such good quality it melted in your mouth well worth every penny spent. In regards drink, I went for a glass of house rosé and personally didn’t enjoy it.Overall though I will most definitely be back for the superb quality food and service and general beautiful atmosphere

I had dinner in 1909 last night for the first time having heard a lot of good things about it recently. On arrival we were greeted by a pianist singing some fantastic songs just loud enough to be heard over ambient noise. The fittings are plush with most of the ground floor where we were seated made up of booths. We were shown to our table and given menus which consist of 7/8 starters with 5/6 main courses and a list of steaks. The little touches to the service bring this place above you average neighbourhood restaurant, firstly the red wine we ordered was decanted at the table, a nice touch to start the meal. For starters I ordered the prawns and crab claws. The portion was perfectly sized and flavoured but perhaps the claws could have been slightly meatier, a good start though and really whet the appetite for the mains. For main course I ordered the 14oz New York Strip. I asked for it rare which as exactly how it was presented. I’ve never before felt that a steak served was too big however given the thickness of the New York I think this was a few more ounces than is required. It was served with some onions and mushrooms, which were a very nice compliment. I ordered some carrot and parsnip mash as a side which did the job without being exceptional. I tried the monkfish and chorizo which was lovely and is what I will order the next time. The main courses were presented to the table with silver covers which were removed in unison, something I haven’t seen since the Earl of Thomand restaurant in Dromoland Castle. The service is a cut above the normal neighbourhood fair but a little precision is lacking in the cooking to get the five stars. The bill with a bottle of wine came to roughly €50 a head.
