I went to 1900 during one of my office dinners. It would be an understatement to claim this place as just brilliant!Located very conveniently in South City East, this lovely restaurant is exactly the place all Dubliners want to be. Their interiors were done prettily. Kind of those places which gives you the feeling of Michelin star restaurants. Their menu was quite interesting for that day. We were lucky enough to be treated with their Christmas specials. Forgive me for not remembering all the names, but we tried their awesomely delicious rabbit starter which was just an explosion of flavours in your mouth all together. It was my first experience of trying out a rabbit dish. The main course was so good that I couldn’t get over it. For drinks, I had the Guinness pint which itself is just amazing! We saved the best one for the last as their caramel toffee dessert was totally out of this world! Never have I tasted such an awesome dessert before. The best one for me! So overall, the food is great, the place is great. So a must try for everyone who is yet to visit this place.
Just back from 1900 – no I’m not so pathetic that I have nothing better to do, it was just simply so good I wanted to express my appreciation before I forget the details. I was lucky enough to be the one chosen to accompany my (similarly lucky) zomato-voucher-receiving friend Megan. After being seated by a lovely hostess in the warm, open space just by the bar, we were greeted by the maitre’d / manager, who kindly told us we were welcome to order off the pre-theatre menu even though the set hours had passed. The waitress who took our order was charming and extremely friendly throughout and later we overheard / were the talking point of the banter between the staff; as a waiter myself something I always notice in any establishment is how the staff seem to get along; it makes it much more believable they’re happy to host you when they clearly enjoy working together.  After being caught totally by surprise by complimentary champagne alongside the bread & butter, our starters arrived promptly – we both opted for the artichoke and prosciutto salad and were both impressed by how a salad could ever be so tasty. I chose the crispy-skinned chicken for my main, which was presented beautifully on a bed of truffle mash (as luxurious to taste as the name would suggest) with wilted spinach – all of which worked together beautifully. I got to try a bit of my friend’s pork belly and despite not being huge on red meat, it was succulent enough to convert me. Also presented very well – we had forgotten to snap the starters (excitement / hunger won out) but Megan was sure to document these beauties before we demolished them. The desserts, similarly, I had to be warned like an over-eager child to wait til the photos had been taken to spoil the perfectly executed aesthetic. I had the crumble, which had a lot of ingredients (all of which were so tasty I assure you each was vital, no overcomplications) and Megan had the raspberry trifle. God damn. Everything about the food, service and ambience in 1900 was perfect. Thank you Zomato (and Megan, for choosing company like an expert) for a total gift of an evening.
I heart 1900! Have been here a few times on work lunches and I admire their consistency, professionalism and excellent quality of food.Today for lunch I went for my favourite dish- the rib of beef which is served with creamy mashed potato, root vegetables and a lovely gravy. The meat is unreal. It’s not just falling off the bone, it is practically leaping off by itself it’s so tender. A lovely hearty meal.I’ve also tried the chicken wings and spatchcock chicken – all really tasty but I just can’t resist the beef. Some of the desserts are served on a slate with the 1900 logo in icing sugar. It’s these little touches and attention to detail that really puts 1900 in a different league. The setting is very comfortable and homely. It’s slightly dimly lit and there’s one of those electric log fire things inside the door which makes it very inviting in the winter. At Christmas, their decorations were lovely. It’s a great spot for large groups and the food is always served promptly with no compromise on quality or presentation. This wouldn’t stop me coming here as a smaller group or party of 2 though- I think they manage the space well. There’s a biggish table inside the door to the left and another one that is down a little stairs- these tables are great for the bit of extra privacy. The staff are incredibly professional and the service is great. Looking forward to my next visit!
I visited The 1900 in the Harcourt Hotel on Friday night and was disappointed with my experience. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived (at 8pm, not early!) and it did fill up while we were there, but the other diners all seemed to be guests of the hotel. My first issue was with the staff, who were very difficult and a little bit rude about accepting a gift voucher, which dampened our evening somewhat. I ordered the Scallops and Shrimp to start and when they arrived was surprised to see beautiful presentation but adorning the 3 tiniest scallops I’ve ever seen! Not ideal for a starter twice the standard price, although what I did get was tasty. I chose Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli for mains and regretted it as soon as it arrived. The sauce was very creamy and tasty and the spinach was delicious but the pasta and filling was bland and the dish was quite small. He had the 10oz sirloin and we agreed it was a very good steak, the saving grace of the meal. Overall I thought you could do much worse, but that the restaurant fancied itself as a bit finer than it is and I won’t be in any rush to return.
I had dinner here on Friday night with my boyfriend courtesy of Zomato. And I have to say I couldn’t fault it, which is a great thing to say about a new restaurant. I really hope this place does well because the food, the decor and the staff were all great. It’s on Harcourt Street so it’s the perfect spot for eating before a night out. The decor is gorgeous and has a mural of the 1900 train inside. For starter I had the chicken liver parfait with brioche toast. It was so good, it came presented on a black slate with a little cup of plum and apple chutney, orange jelly and 4 pieces of toast. It was so tasty I could have dined on it all night. My boyfriend had the prosciutto and artichoke salad with quail eggs and olives. The dressing on this dish was gorgeous -a honey and mustard style. Very very good. And the size was more than enough. For the main I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli and he had the lamb with potato gratin and veg. Again both dishes were flawless. I really enjoyed the simplicity of my main. The flavours were great and the dish came with a light cream sauce and parmesan on top. Absolutely beautiful. The lamb was probably the nicest lamb I’ve ever tasted. As soon as you put it into your mouth it oozed flavour. It was served medium perfectly and the potato gratin was lovely and root vegetables. I will definitely be having this next time. Our dessert was a chocolate mousse cake which was very tasty and again presented on a black slate. Overall great restaurant and I would definitely recommend it. Great job 1900.
