Popped in here for lunch and a pint after a walk around Glasnevin Cemetery and the Botanic Gardens. Nice, roomy restaurant/pub with very friendly service. I ordered the one vegetarian option on the menu, and it was actually quite good. Quite often, the vegetarian dishes get sidelined and end up tasting very average when it’s the only one on the menu. But it was different here. Would go back again!
The Grave Diggers is a truly iconic pub that is one of Dublin’s best-kept secrets, nestled at the side of a neighbourhood green between Phibsboro and Glasnevin, on the edge of Glasnevin Cemetary (thus its nick-name). The interior of the bar is as olden-style and authentic as can be seen in the entire city, and has been used in the making of several films (such as Angela’s Ashes) and several Smithwicks TV ads. It is virtually the only pub in Dublin where you can play a game of rings. The Guinness here is renowned among connoisseurs as being one of the finest quality – arguably THE finest – in the world. If you love The Black Stuff and have yet to sample it here, you need to do so lickety-split!
