Great hotel, great staff and wonderful service! sometimes it is the service that counts than even the food! I love everything about this hotel, so friendly !
I have passed next to The Dylan Hotel a million times during this 2 years in Dublin because I had a friend living near by. Every time I looked at that elegant building reigning Pembrooke area I thought it was beautiful but I could never imagine it is such a precious hidden diamond in the city! I am even scared to share this secret with you since I would still like to get a table when I come back…When crossing the entrance of this five star boutique hotel you stop even feeling you are in Dublin to travel instantly to a chic sunny destination. Its lounge area outside with extra white table clothing and soft chill out music will instantly bring up your mood (specially if you’re lucky and it’s sunny that day).We met with Oscar Navarro (original from Madrid as myself, yei!), Dylan’s Director of Operations, who led us through the hotel’s history and concept. A renovated nun’s residence, the Dylan still keeping that charm from the Georgian buildings around the city but discovers a new idea of Chic-But-Not-Snob. Even if a five star hotel, it is the first one in which you won’t feel uncomfortable for not wearing a tie. Although the treat to the customer, the surroundings, the atmosphere and the food still five star!oing to the food topic, which is what matters here, the Dylan offers food all day from up to 6 different menus for all occasions: breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, afternoon tea and BBQ. This time we had the pleasure to taste its lately renovated brunch menu defined as Irish modern cuisine. Finally a brunch menu that takes the risk and innovates! Yes, you can find the typical Benedict eggs and others but you will see the difference with the crab meat and avocado eggs, for example. A hint: they looked so good that we jumped into them forgetting about taking a picture (sorry about that!)To continue, we went for what I consider the star dish: Ibérico Ham Burger. A burger made out of Ibérico minced pork and pata negra ham. For those not familiarise with the hierarchy in the serrano ham world, Pata Negra is the best of the best. If you are not a Spanish person and you come to this place you will finally understand what the real taste is like!As a side dish (even if it was the biggest salad I’ve seen in long time) we went for the superfood salad with complimentary salmon made of quinoa, pumpkin seeds, green leaves, grapefruit, orange, pomegranate and beetroot. An injection of vitamins that will keep your fuel up for the whole day.To wrap up, Oscar chose the desert for us: Melting Valrhona Chocolate Sphere. Since it is such a cool show to describe only with words, I recorded a video which you can see on my blog(you are allowed to laugh with the “oohhh” “woow” comments)Thanks Oscar and Sadhbh for contacting me about The Dylan, otherwise I would have never discover it. So happy to explore and find places so worthy to spend time in. Kudos for an amazing job guys!Bon Apetite,Grade: 10/10Price: €€
I was recently invited as a guest to try out the new brunch offering at The Dylan Hotel. So on a warm but cloudy Sunday morning I grabbed a fellow diner and headed off to see what was on offer.Having already stayed in the Dylan Hotel some years back I knew what to expect in terms of its lavish surroundings and opulent styling. They were only starting to get busy when we arrived and we settled on a table on the front terrace rather than the back courtyard. The only draw back for me here was the atmosphere. It’s a great terrace and comfortably furnished and is certainly a place to sit and stay a while, especially when the sun shines, but it lacks a bit of background music to go with the brunch. Personally I’m not a fan of blaring music while I’m trying to eat and chat but over a leisurely brunch a bit of easy listening jazz or lounge music goes perfectly. Might be something they could look at adding. As it was brunch I wanted to try something a little different to the standard fry and there was plenty on offer on the menu. A mix of eggs cooked a variety of ways, salads, meat from the grill etc. There was also a selection of brunch ‘eye openers’ available including the old favourite Bloody Mary. The prices are pretty decent too and range from €7 for the simpler dishes to €16.50 for the grilled ones.I settled on the burrito (€9.90) with a Firecracker cocktail (€12) to go with it. My guest was somewhat less adventurous and opted for the safety of the Dylan Breakfast (€11.50) and a pot of tea. Granted he was driving but I was raging he didn’t try something else, purely so I could try it out.My burrito I have to say was very tasty and very filling and ate every bit of it. A warm tortilla filled with minced beef, black beans, cumin, chorizo and topped with fresh avocado, salsa and natural yogurt. I like my burrito’s quite mild so this suited me perfectly. If you were in favour of a hotter experience I would suggest mentioning at the time of ordering and no doubt you could be catered for.The Dylan Breakfast, very ample, consisted of toast, two sausages, two eggs, black and white pudding, a potato scone, bacon and a grilled mushroom. In fairness its hard to go wrong with a traditional fry and it was perfectly enjoyable. The Dylan as a hotel is quite quirky and unique and I’d like to see a bit more of that character injected into their signature fry up. Perhaps a choice of sausages, garlic, spicy etc. and some tasty relish to go with it or a choice of regular or fried or French toast. As I said it was perfectly enjoyable but an option to elevate it that little bit more might give it a nice edge.My Firecracker cocktail was exactly as described, a FIRECRACKER!! fresh raspberries, red chilli infused vodka, which they make themselves and a white chocolate liqueur. Most definitely the stand out of the morning and most certainly it belongs under the Eye Opener section of the menu.Brunch at The Dylan has very little to find fault with in fairness. The food was good the service was excellent (to all tables) and the surrounds were comfortable. A couple of little extra touches, like the background music and a more personal stamp on the menu, for me, would certainly make it a Go To Place.
We were here for a tasting menu for New Years last. We were seated in the little library and it was beautiful. Ask to sit here if you get the choice. Really set the atmosphere for us and it was very romantic. There were several course and the quality of the food was excellent. Our waiter for the night was so accommodating and really helpful. We had a great laugh with him and he really added to the experience.
