About
In 1940s Matera, grandad Enrico used to take his cart around the streets of the Sassi selling "grattata", a typical mixture of crushed ice and freshly squeezed lemon juice. As time progressed, he began to expand on his mixtures and evolve his recipes to make his renowned homemade gelato. Since then the family's gelato tradition has continued to evolve whilst staying true to grandpa Enrico's traditional recipe. Today, at "Ridola" we continue this family tradition and continue to use the region's finest ingredients to create Italy's finest gelato. Not just gelato, but also nice breakfasts and great brunches: "crostoni" (local toasted sandwiches with Matera Bread), friselle, salads, soups, fruit juices, smoothies and many other excellent proposals.
