  When in Italy, eat Pizza.Never has there been a time before when restaurants around the world have had to struggle to keep up the standards of their own regional cuisine than now. Even the Italians. With the rise of the Chef, what is now served on the plate has finally come back to the centre stage.  Rec 23 is a sensation in Rome when it comes to places serving affordable quality gastronomical experiments. My visit to this place was for a dinner with friends during a conference. With a cover charge of 20 Euros which includes a 4 course meal and wine, the price certainly was alright being in Europe.The restaurant is ideally located in the city centre opposite to the Tiber river and places such as these really turn up during night time. With dark boards outside, the place can be a bit difficult to recognise, but once inside, it changes everything.Ambience :Amazing. Soft live music being played in the background with just the right temperature inside. Coming in at around 7:30, we got our big table at one end of the restaurant. The seating is comfortable and the lights along with the scent of both the food and in general accentuate the whole experience. Each table comes with a candle light that go well with the background.Food :Melane Alla Parmigiana : Several layers of eggplant, done different ways, soaked in Parmesan cheese and served with anchovies and broccoli.A surprise for a starter but extremely well done. Totally re-imagining cooking with this ingredient and presenting it in the most amazing fashion.Taccozzette Con Stracotto : First of the mains, this pasta with braised pork shoulders and herbs was my first experience of a dish that truly is ‘al-dente’.With a little more salt than my liking, the pasta did a great job and yes unlike other places serving a version of the same, the pork here was at the centre of attraction. La Frittata : Egg is the showstopper in here. Sliced into 4 even pieces with a glaze on top served alongside fried potatoes, this dish was an alternative to the other main course being beef with mashed potatoes. Extremely well done with bags of flavour.The dessert : A slice of lemon pie with vanilla ice cream was in many ways the perfect end to a great evening. Wine : A selection of Chianti Classico from the region of Tuscany and another Italian white wine. The wine truly flowed in every sense and complemented the food very well. Serving Italian cuisine in Italy is no less than a huge responsibility and on my visit to regions of Tuscany and Lazio, this fact was highlighted very well. So amidst all this responsibility comes the task of delivering quality and this place in my opinion did most of the things right. Good service, great food and even better wine. An amazing overall experience.

  Locale carino per un dopo cena. Situato in zona Tesraccio, è interessante per la varietà del menu e la location, molto ben fatta e curata, con questi mattoncini che ben si sposano con i mobili e la luce all’interno. Piacevole per scambiare due chiacchere anche la piazzetta antistante

  Torno sempre volentieri in questo posto, soprattutto per l’aperitivo. Il locale è molto grande, dispone di due ampie sale, molto comodo soprattutto se si è un bel gruppo. Lo stile newyorkese rende l’ambiente caldo e accogliente. L’aperitivo è a buffet e offre ricette sfiziose con cibo di qualità. Lo staff è molto professionale, personale attento e gentile. Tutti i giovedì aperitivo in blues con musica dal vivo. Consigliato!!
