“Nuovo Macello” in Italian means “new slaughterhouse”. Back when the restaurant open in 1928 it was in front of the then “new slaughterhouse”.Fast forward a few decades and the “Trattoria del Nuovo Macello” is still around. The trattoria still maintains it’s old world/Milan charm. It has the traditional dark wooden trattoria chairs and an interior that says Sunday dinner at your hypothetical Italian grandma’s house. It looks like what you imagine an Italian trattoria should, and you (me/we) love it for that. But they have revamped the cuisine. Offering traditional Milanese and Italian food with a twist.I’ve eaten at the Trattoria on several occasions. On the most recent visit, I had “Surprise Tasting Menu” with features four courses of the chef’s picking all for just 33 euros. By the way, I think that is a spectacular price considering the quality of the food and the fact that this is Milan. If I remember correctly they offered us the choice of doing a seafood or a meat tasting menu. And of course we were able to tell them of any allergies or any specific things we don’t like. The dishes we ended up having included “Beef tartare Tokyo and Turin”. Bread gnochetti with black eyed peas, veal meatballs with artichokes and pine nuts in a sweet and savory sauce, followed by vanilla ice-cream with poached pears and homemade granola bar.Besides the food, the trattoria has an extensive wine list and friendly staff. They waiters manage to walk that fine line between being haute cuisine formal using the “Lei” (Italian second person formal) and welcoming the restaurant patrons like old friends that have come over to visit.
Cotoletta molto particolare e decisamente buona. Carne alta e molto succulenta, panatura croccante. Servizio molto cordiale. Lista dei vini così così, non ho trovato il colpo di fulmine. Tornerò.
