The homeliest welcome yet during my Milan time came at Sancio Pancia, an eccentric osteria syphoned on to a sidestreet off Via Monza in the most nondescript of neighbourhoods.All foliage and decorative cladding outside, and a quirky distressed lime green within, it’s a relaxed place to enjoy homestyle pasta, meat and veg. On this occasion, hopefully not my last, I partook of ragu with tubes of maniche pasta and the main event, a very tender beef ‘sottocosta’. Short of veg of late, I also took a side of fresh tomatoes. While the tomatoes weren’t as fresh and zingy as most others I’ve had in Milanese restaurants, they were pretty good. And the pasta had that texture that only the loveliest pasta can, just resistant enough to the bite, while the sauce sank right into it. The proprietors ran the front of house with bohemian charm, and it was a very wholesome way to pass a lunchtime in an otherwise also-ran part of town.

Sancio Pancia, allegra combriccola di osti bravi e super simpatici!Siamo incappati in questa osteria per caso, per un pranzo di lavoro e, devo dire, siamo rimasti davvero molto soddisfatti! Abbiamo preso dei piatti unici: Un Rebelot e un Rebelot Vegetariano. Buoni, nutrienti e di ottima qualità ! La location lascia un po’ a desiderare, ma è sicuramente confacente all’idea di osteria. L’atmosfera, invece, accogliente e familiare. Consigliata!
