"La Tramontana" is the first fishing cooperative in Sicily to have started a type of ichthyo tourism. In accordance with the European Common Fisheries policy, it has approached differently to the fishing, in a sustainable environment view. To make the most of the fishery product, the cooperative has launched ichthyo tourism trough: the production, preparation and administration of food and beverages - obtained mainly with own products and typical products of the area - in the company premises; the sale of traditional food and crafts produced by the company; the organization and tasting of the company products; the organization of recreational, cultural, educational and hiking activities, aimed at increasing the value of the territory and of the fish stocks.The cooperative "La Tramontana" has implemented the "short food supply chain" and the guests that visit the company can observe the immediacy of the passage between the place of production (sea) and the place of sale (market or ichthyo tourism). The minor exploitation of the fisheries resources is balanced by an appreciation of the product. The company offers to the guest the possibility of tasting and purchasing products like salted fish, dry or in oil, also "La Tramontana" organizes recreational, cultural, educational and instructive activities with the aim of spreading "the sea and fishing culture". The fishery product is the raw material for the ichthyo tourism activities trough the transformation of the fresh fish into traditional dishes of Trapani. The administration takes place in the company's premise located in Via Carolina, 4 in the Historic center of Trapani. The activity of administration is carried out from April to October.
