Welcome Arashiyama Benkei was established in 1969 on the historical and scenic land known as Arashiyama. . Guests at Benkei indulge in traditional multi-course kaiseki fare that uses seasonal ingredients found not only in Kyoto, but sourced from all over Japan. We take care in creating cuisine that appeals to all palates, yet maintains respect for the tenets of traditional Kyoto cooking. -The Soul of Kyoto Cuisine- Having prospered as Japan's capital city for over a millennium, Kyoto also developed its own gourmet culture as a prominent national culinary center. Most consider the origins of Kyoto cooking to be found in shjin-ryri, Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. This translates into a modern culinary tradition that is characterized by an emphasis on the flavors of the ingredients and what can be added to enhance those flavors. In addition to flavor, this custom values food presentation and dining atmosphere, inviting all 5 senses to indulge in the experience. The end result is an appreciation for nature's bounty, and an unparalleled sense of hospitality (omotenashi) toward the diner. -Enjoy a day trip of Kyoto cuisine and Arashiyama onsen- Day trip guests at Benkei may also opt to enjoy a relaxing bath in addition to a gourmet meal. The facilities open at 11:30 a.m. We offer full plans that include meals in private room (2 hours for bento meals or 3 hours for full-course kaiseki meals), baths, towels, and yukata robe, as well as more informal plans that include a restaurant meal in the open space and onsen bath.
