LASITE is running its 43st season! LASITE is a legendary place since 1975 ... In older Soviet period this wasnt only a very popular Old Town cafe, but also, as common for those times, one of the most inaccessible places in Riga... Looking back even further in history, everything started in 1454, when at the same time with the ancient fortifications of Riga, here appears Blind street (Akla iela), where on the ground floor, beneath the ancient cross vaults, LASITE is located. Architect Silvija Petersone, in 1975, designing the cafe, tried to keep the old building and its medieval spirit as much as possible. Restored stained-glass appeared in the windows, the wolf and peccary skin were attached to the walls, massive medieval-style furniture placed in hall. And yet ... people say, that in Soviet times LASITE has been the place where the Latvian SSR senior management, with Augusts Voss (Latvian communist leader in 70th/80th years XX century) himself forefront after freezing in the Komsomol Quay podium, has come "to warm up" with cognac and continued to celebrate the October holidays and other communist celebrations. Stepping by in to LASITE, anyone enters a peculiar mix of atmosphere, where the old Livonian atmosphere mingles with the nostalgic seventies and eighties of the last century. For many centuries, these facilities have experienced a variety of events; there have been both luxurious feasts, both bloody and dramatic love drama, witnessed by a ghost (or ghosts) seen by many LASITE employees. In addition to the traditional range of a modern restaurant, we offer LASITE visitors Livonia (XV-XVI century) time dishes, which are served in the authentic clay dishes. Visitors are able to get nostalgic Soviet-era cocktails. Every night is live music. Often in LASITE performs Girts Pavenis (guitar, piano, mandolin) with popular music and early music performer Einars Kvilis (banjo, flute, mandolin, lute, guitar), as well as other artists. Especially welcome are all those to whom LASITE at different times has been a welcoming and lovely place.
