Writing a review about Torino is like rating Eiffel Tower. Many times, places that get mythical stature are more often about the hype than the real thing. This cannot be farthest from the truth than when it comes to Torino. I cannot possibly recall how long we go back, Torino and I, and how many friends and faces have witnessed those uncouth bar stools along the years. Yet, this bar has maintained the same level of ambiance, service, great prices, taste and music since it opened its doors so many years ago. People who do not like Torino Express probably miss the most fundamental pillar it is based on: humor. For at the heart of this lovely place lies raillery, in all the smallest details: from the board writings to the pictures on the wall to the bartenders’ attitude and discussions to cocktail garnishes, down to music and decoration. Torino is a classic. The wide and diverse range of customers proves it. You can come for awesome cocktails, great music, absurd discussions, drunk hipsters, gatherings of familiar faces, or simply for a quiet coffee on a lonely afternoon. Beirut does not get better, or smaller than this.

Torino is nice and cosy bar with a rustic feel in Gemmayzeh. It is however tiny and crowded on most evenings, so you often end up having your drink on the sidewalk outside. If you do manage to find a table inside, you will immediately have a headache because of the horrible and loud music, especially on Friday nights when one of the bartenders plays music from his laptop. Torino is a nice place for a coffee or drink in the afternoon though. It has good cocktails and some good panini sandwiches. Prices are cheap.
