Proposed Review: Fisherman's Inn ZUVELE is situated in Juodkrante near the long Lagoon. The name of this charming seaside-patio, shaped like a boat with fish-shaped wooden-chair backs, means Fishy. This business is run by the family of the oldest local fisherman, who brings his daily catch to be served for clients. Restaurant's menu is based on fish dishes, from local salt and fresh waters fish, that is prepared fried, boiled, grilled or marinated. Moreover, you can purchase hot-smoked fish from a little old lady, who sells it directly from a smoker facing the dining area. She snips the fish with shears into pieces, which you then take away to eat with your bare hands. That appears to be the only way smoked fish can be had throughout the Curonian Spit. The restaurant does provide a wash basin located directly in the dining area. You'll likely also need that after carefully plucking the fish off the bones in the delicious fish soup, made from several kinds of fish, and containing any part of the fish whatsoever (mine had an orange-colored fishtail in it). For the more-fastidious dinner, most of the other menu items can be eaten with knife and fork alone. This is not fare to eat in all one's finery, or a place to proudly display your impeccable table manners, but you'd be hard-pressed to find fresher or better-tasting local seafood. There is a wondrous garden in back (through which you pass on the way to the WC), where the restaurant grows some of its own vegetables and herbs, where there was a squash vine growing up and out of a soil-filled dory. To us, Zuvele was a truly memorable experience from our two-week trip across Lithuania in August 2011.
