It was a happy and dirt cheap ending for this crab lover, paying only RM 8 for a small sized mud crab to be cooked in a delicious recipe of my choice (buttered, curried, baked, steamed, chili, or sweat and sour). Trust me RM 8 for one crab is seriously cheap for crabs, can’t get that kind of price anymore in this killer economy. The reason they start so cheap, is because they are very small ( about the size of a palm), but honestly it was enough for me, had enough flesh to savor. I don’t eat crabs necessarily for the meat because I usually like to savor the dipping sauce that is usually cooked with the crab, therefore the small size served its purpose wellHowever for those looking to have more crab meat, don’t be disappointed, they do have medium and large sized carbs at a higher price (ranges from RM12- RM40. Plus they also have live tilapia fish, starting at RM 9.80 per KG, and they also have other seafood (not live, but fresh) such as cockles, clams, prawns, other fishes, squid and so much more. The crabs do have a minimal surcharge of RM 5 for cooking each crab dish. The star of the meal was the butter prawns, I ordered large at RM 39: there was like a whole lot of huge prawns on the plate, cooked to perfection. The outside texture crusted with a fine silky like egg nest, tasted very sweet and was aromatic since chilies and curry leaves was used as garnish. The salted squid RM 18 was also delicious. Thickly sliced squid rings was deep fried in a light batter and then mixed with a delicious layer of salted egg sauce, it was salty, sweet and slightly spicy, a perfect combination. Plus the curry leaves and chili brought an extra depth of flavor to the dish. I would also recommend ordering the fried man tao: this deep fried steam bread, was lush and delicious. Very soft, and a perfect pairing to be dipped with the sweet and sour crab that we opted. The service was excellent, Chinese tea was always filled up, and the people taking the orders was very welcoming and friendly. The price was seriously affordable, after having shrimp, crabs, squid, all I paid was RM 120. The only negative would have to be the outdoor seating being the only option with the view of the main road, not exactly romantic. But definitely a great place for affordable seafood with good taste. Especially after an afternoon hike at Batu Caves and the tummy is all grumbly. Only 15 minutes drive from Batu Caves. Parking is easy and free.
