A charming corner reminiscent of village nostalgia smack in the middle of KL. Artwood corner is having an identity crisis. In between the towering surplus of office blocks, the Royal Chulan hotel, ill-conceived mrt in the works, and the deserted Craft Complex, it is hard to imagine a spirit determined enough to create life here. Yet here it stands, the epitome of the Malaysian Malaise. There is really nothing to comment on the menu, at least the server was kind enough to inform that most of the stuff are bought ready-made, except the goreng pisang and cekodok. Fresh as they are, I would really appreciate if he would also have told me that the frozen stuff taste better. To that end, the cendol was surprisingly pleasant, but the cup it was served in was badly flawed. Being optimistic about this place is hard. But stay with it, as with property, it is always about the location. And this guy has it. While the mrt right outside is gonna take at least half a decade more, if Artwood survives, which they won’t if they don’t start making some changes, they will be a likely candidate for the best cafe in downtown KL.
