Good food at decent price plus good service. If you want to try authentic Malay cuisines, Bijan is one of the better Malay restaurants in KL with a nice ambiance.
We wanted to get some good Malaysian authentic food near our hotel, so chose here after reading reviews. This is a good choice and the food is ok but it’s pricey. I would recommend but it’s not amazing.
(1.5/5.0) Bijan is a Malay fine-dining restaurant in Bukit Bintang which receives accolades as the best Malay restaurant in town. I disagree. Situated in the leafy Jalan Ceylon, the quaint and serene restaurant appears a clear juxtaposition to the boisterous night markets a couple of streets away. The restaurant is divided into two main sections: A dimly-lit interior and a leafy outdoor alfresco dining.I ordered several signature dishes to see how Malay cuisine could be further refined and innovated. To my disappointment, many dishes were merely passable and absolutely prepared poorly.First, the chicken satays were terrible. Poorly marinated frozen breast meat was used and the satays were so tough that they could utterly unchewable. Probably they should follow the Singaporean-style of using premium chicken thigh cubes interspersed with chicken fat. Second, the Masak Lemak Udang Tempoyak, a classical Perak dish of sautéed prawns served in fermented durian and kaffir lime, was a great appetiser. However, the prawns were mushy and powdery, which suggested about its freshnessThird, the Kacang Bunis Goreng dengan Udang, or crispy French beans with prawns, were equally disappointing. The French beans were not crispy or crunchy and failed to absorb any of the spices or sauce. The cocktails were not great either. There is neither any element of innovation nor excellent culinary in any of the dishes or drinks.
So we reached the restaurant at 10.35. They were kind enough to serve us.. Even though the restaurant closes at 11 sharp. I would like to convey my special thanks to Sophea. She played a wonderful host. Needless to say, the cocktail and food were outstanding!
Bijan offers skilfully cooked traditional dishes in a sophisticated dining room that spills out into a tropical garden. Must-try dishes include rendang daging (dry beef curry with lemongrass), masak lemak ikan (Penang-style fish curry with turmeric) and ikan panggang (grilled skate with tamarind).
