Went to oribe for lunch ; where I order the basic Seto set which is only at RM128 since I am not a fan of fine Japanese sushi . I immediately regretted not to try the set with more varieties. This place is probably one of the place where I would recommend for good quality sushi. Glad that I’m sitting at the bar counter , being able to witness how it is made. The chef was really cute and introduce a lot of things to us. I would definitely come back for their famous ORIBE set or even OMAKASE menu. They actually serve the same set but the price is more hefty during dinner.
Reservations were very easy to make, though we couldn’t get the bar seats as it was full. I would assume the bar would be more interesting as you get to see how the chef makes the sushi. Since I went with a few friends, we got a whole private dining ‘room’ to ourselves.I ordered the Mino set at a price of RM 300+ inclusive of taxes. It came with an appetizer, 13 pieces sushi, chawanmushi, a handroll, dessert and free flow green tea.The single item that I enjoyed most was the flounder fish. It melted on my tongue when I put it in my mouth. All the sushi pieces were served with a hint of wasabi. Personally I would have preferred it without the wasabi but I forgot to mention so it would be good to take note on that.Chawanmushi here was good too, the texture was amazing!Would come back again.
Satisfying Japanese meal here. Expected to served with the freshest sashimi that will melt in your mouth! However, the servers are rushing to serve the next dish. So if you plan to enjoy your food slowly, do not finish the food on your plate fast.
I think the sushi is decent however, I’m unlikely to go back there again as i do not feel the chef understands what service or goodwill means. Hosted a friend of mine for dinner and brought along 2 expensive bottles of sake as their sake list was very basic and bought another 2 of their most expensive bottles there. Shared the sake with the chef the entire evening and even with some of his other customers which I’m more than happy to do so. I was expecting a waiver in corkage charges but sad to say he charged me for both bottles i brought (which he is perfectly entitled to do so). However that left a very bad taste in my mouth after the dinner. Overall, decent sushi but i wont go back.
Clearly, the quality of fish is upper tier, and this is the reason to go to a sushi restaurant. the concept is set menu: portions are minuscule but presented like a Michelin star. Service impeccable. The seats at the counter are in highest demand to see the preparation, book in advance as it’s sold out. Lunch is 100 rm cheaper than dinner, same food.
