Been a fan of Gyukingu for a while, but recently, I think the management changed or something; they are now marked as a “pork free” place, and the meats are strongly marinated. I’m not sure, but previously I think they offered choosing your meats wether marinated with sauce, or just salt and pepper. The service, during my last visit days ago, was prompt, efficient, and friendly though. Enjoyed the grilling and the place since it was empty around 7.30 in the evening.

My visit was near closing time so I didn’t have the hassle of dealing with crowds. My order was very promptly delivered and it was not a let down. The meat was fresh and very good! My desire for yakiniku ie. BBQ meat was totally satisfied. The shop ambience was good with an authentic Japanese feel – lots of sake bottles on display. The ventilation was good so I didn’t leave smelling like I bbq-ed myself as well. I would repeatedly go visit if my wallet allows for it. Pricing wise, it is averagely reasonable for the quality of meat they are providing.

We’ve always wanted to visit but never actually made the effort to. It was until one day when they decided to distribute a little discount voucher of 35% so a friend grabbed it and we finally, decided to make our visit. Saga Wagyu Moriawase (RM265). This platter is to die for: whatever cuts those are, everything melts in the mouth!

Saga beef was delicious. Garlic fried rice a must order, I find it extra savoury then the usual garlic fried rice. Taste more Chinese like than Japanese. In a good way. Service was impeccable. The only short side was the spicy octopus. The octopuses were extremely small, and the dish was small portion too. I would say generally was good. The star was the saga beef.

For some reasons, Desa Sri Hartamas has a big concentration of Yakiniku (Japanse BBQ) restaurants. Gyukingu, headquartered at Kota Damansara is the latest to join the ranks of best Yakiniku restaurants in the neighbourhood. If quality comes before quantity for you, then Gyukingu is one place you just cannot miss. The man behind the kitchen is Chef Lim, who have served Japanese celebrities (even Takeshi Kaneshiro!) during his long stint at one of the most prestigious Yakiniku restaurant in Shinjuku.
