This restaurant chain is my most favourite Taiwanese food shop. I have visited their chain outlets in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok. I have also frequented their 3 outlets at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Pavilion Mall and Mid Valley Mega Mall respectively in Kuala Lumpur.Din Tai Fung was founded in Taipei, Taiwan in 1958 as a cooking oil retail shop. It transformed into a full fledged restaurant specialising in soup dumplings and noodles in 1972. It subsequently evolved into an international franchise business brand, expanding their franchise outlets globally. My friends and I are of the view that the foods offered by their outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singapore taste much better than the originating outlet in Taipei. We find that the foods in the Taipei outlet taste relatively blander. I guess my friends and I have heavier taste buds, and that the tastes of Taiwanese foods are generally milder compared to other South East countries.Their foods are generally above average and you will not get bored with them especially their steamed meat dumplings (pork, chicken, fish, prawn + pork, crab meat + pork, pork + vegetable, etc) and steamed sweet filling dumplings (red beans, chocolate, etc). Their meat dumplings are exquisitely hand made by their skillful chefs and steamed upon getting your order. You can see through the glass kitchen where their chefs prepare and fold the various dumplings. The steamed dumplings are best eaten steaming hot when their waiting staff serve on you. The piping hot soup in the meat dumplings will burst and trickle into your mouth and then seep flavourfully into your throat. Undeniably unrivaled and satisfying! They also have a lot of other dishes which are equally delicious, such as fried pork chop, Shanghai style drunken chicken, shrimp and pork wonton in tangy sauce, hot and sour soup, etc.The portions of their fishes are not as huge, just a reasonable size and in quantity too.One very commendable comment for this chain is their excellent customer service. No matter which outlet under this chain that you patronise, their waiting staff are all very friendly, courteous and efficient. I really have to give a big thumbs up to their waitimg staff for their amazingly great customer services. You will surely enjoy the foods, leaving the place with a very pleasant dining experience!Food & Beverage : 8/10Service : 10/10Price : 6/10Ambience : 9/10
Had the Red Bean Paste Xiao Long Bao and the shrimp with pork dumpling. Dumpling was as expected, pretty good and quality is along the lines of other outlets. The Red Bean Paste XLB however was a let down. Paste was good but skin is very chewy and hard especially on the top. It’s either they didn’t steam it long enough or it was premade and kept in the fridge. As a chain outlet riding on it’s Michelin Star fame it should’ve maintained a certain consistency in quality across the branches.
Din Tai Fung! I still prefer the xiao long bao’s here instead of the ones in Indonesia. Somehow they are better here. These always goes well with the noodles they serve here! This time I went to the Din Tai Fung in 1Utama this time around. We, of course, have to order their 小笼包! These juicy dumplings tastes great with their pork and shrimp filling! The broth inside is very rich, and it goes well with the rice vinegar they provide. I love to add chili oil to the rice vinegar too.Aside from their xiao long bao, I also had their spicy sesame sauce noodles (担担面) with pork bits. The sauce is tasty and creamy! The creaminess coats the noodles well, and bits of pork in the noodles adds more chewiness to the noodles.
Not satisfied with all food. Tasteless. The Xiao long bao is not really good. Minced Pork Bean sauce noodle has a strong strong flavor of bean n shrimp fried rice is just ordinary. It can be found in a food court.
