Dining at DC restaurant by Darren Chin was an extraordinary and exceptional experience. The wait staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable. The service was impeccable. We were recommended a wine that suited both our taste as well as palate. A testament that the employees of DC are extremely knowledgable about their offerings in the restaurant. The food was really good, with the flavours well balanced. One seafood that most chefs have difficulty mastering is squid. I have to say, DC did a great job with the squid and octopus. It was not chewy, instead there was a light springiness to the texture, whilst being easy to chew. The little tartlets were an amazing introduction to the food as well, with a wide variety of flavours and textures in such small packages. It was a visual and sensory explorative exercise. The foie gras was an addition to the rack of lamb, and it was an amazing choice to get it. The outside was crisp with sea salt, whilst the middle was perfectly medium, giving a crisp texture whilst melting like butter in the mouth to leave a feeling of warmth and completeness.I would highly recommend DC.
Great food that doesn’t come cheap. I’m not sure if I would return for a second visit, even though I enjoyed the dishes. I think some dishes lacked the oomph I was expecting. What I enjoyed was their bread, their butter. The sorbet, the desserts. But I Guess that’s about it?
Visited back in Aug and the experience is still very fresh in my head.Poorly executed menu, can’t even serve proper beef for the price they charge unless you top up 1/3 price of your original menu for a proper beef. Braised beef for main is a major no for dinner menu. Their truffles are tasteless and not shaved infront of you. Wood chip texture and frantically just tasteless, it makes me wonder what kind of low grade/not properly preserved truffle is this? Burnt leek was literally black colour while some others got it lightly grilled where you can still see green. I could go on and on but I will stop here. The whole dinner was literally very distressing. Service was okay in the beginning, one of the better ones if you were to compare KL food scene. However the question “how was your food“ was just for show. You can dislike and send your food back but nothing actually comes back. You don’t finish your food, they ask what’s wrong, and no replacement. We actually left quite a fair bit of food uneaten and sent it back because it was just, not on par. Cheap ingredients slapping on the plate and serving it. For the price they charge – it was not worth my time. It’s just a pretentious place where people choose photos over food quality. Yes it may look nice but the taste of the food can’t be captured by photos. All in all, I can only say I felt cheated with such bad quality food, chef who couldn’t care less, and money is totally better spent elsewhere. My friend who has dined here 4 times said this is one of his worst experience in DC – it was totally off the charts for him. Honestly speaking, they won’t even bother with this and choose to filter off customers like us which is perfectly fine by me. Also coincidentally, we were there when they were too busy with the new establishment’s opening.
Kudos to Darren and his team. The food is better than some of the Michelin restaurants we have dined. Creatively interesting without being ridiculous, and delicious. We finished our evening happy. Only gripe if there must be one, would be to have two dessert options to select from. Oh and to include coffee/tea as part of the degustation would have been a nice touch as most establishments of this standard already do that these days. Still I’d return when in KL again.
Excellent service. The food was one of the better ones in KL. The croissant is hand down the best I’ve tried in KL. Nice restaurant for romantic dinner for 2
