Marketing Ex-Classmate Reunion Dinner Gathering @ Canton Kitchen Happy Garden (老招牌中餐馆) Experience. Around 6.30pm I make a move from office because there is a Marketing ex-classmate reunion dinner gathering at Canton Kitchen Happy Garden (老招牌中餐馆) restaurant. Somehow the Waze location is quite accurate as the venue at Jalan Senang Ria area although my friends had shared the location. Upon arrival, I couldn’t locate the parking place and just parked beside the building.
Looking for lunch alone before going to work can be dreary. So I tried my luck at this place. I’ve been here before when they first open but at that time they didn’t even have a menu. They sell mostly Cantonese-style dishes and some Guangxi-style ones too. After looking through their new extensive menu, it is hard to decide what to eat. Since I was alone, I opted for a single-serving Claypot Prawn With Glass Noodles and Chinese Wine. I wanted to have other dishes but according to the waiter I won’t be able to finish by myself.
Stopped for lunch at this place while working in the nearby locality. The restaurant is a chain and the board says its very old (since 1988), more than 25 years. There were two sections in the restaurant – one was a grocery store where they were selling different Chinese food ingredients, the other section was the dine in area. When we reached there, the restaurant was decently full. The ambience of the place is just ok, nothing to rave about. They have live fish tanks where your food comes from if you pick one of the dishes with fish. The order was taken very quickly and the food also arrived soon. I opted for Sweet and sour chicken with rice and watermelon juice. The chicken dish was a bit too sweet for my liking and the chicken pieces had been deep fried that they were dry. The juice was good – it was fresh and very refreshing. Overall a place to go in for a quick meal but not a place where I would plan an outing with friends or family.
