About
Passions of Kerala one of Penang's most popular Kerala style (South Indian) banana leaf restaurants. From its humble beginnings as a small family sundry store, it is now a favourite among locals and tourists alike. Kerala cuisine emphasises the use of different spices, aromas and colours. Pepper, cardamom, cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, mustard seeds, chilies and curry leaves are just some of the countless of spices used in the food preparation in the kitchen. Most dishes are creamy and cooked with a generous amount of grated coconut and santan (coconut milk). Only the best ingredients are chosen so as to retain the authenticity of what some might argue is a dying trade. The recipes for the dishes originate from the owner's grandmother who localised Kerala inspired flavours to Penangnites taste. These recipes were subsequently handed down to his aunt and to their trusted chefs.
