Inherited from Hakka Chinese origins, Yong Tau Foo is a dish that consists of ground meat or fish paste stuffed into tofu and vegetables such as okra, bitter gourd, eggplant and chilli. Served either dry accompanied with dipping sauces or as a hearty soup dish. The Yong Tau Foo restaurant we are visiting is famous enough to just called themselves “Puchong Yong Tau Foo” which shows lots of confidence in their food (already well known for years).
Location wise, it is quite hard to find as it is abit secluded from the town. It is situated opposite SK Puchong and an agama school (sorry I didn’t notice the name). When you arrive at the area, be sure not to be confused by the shops as there are more than one yong tau foo shops along that area with the same name. The one you’re looking for has a white sign with black and red lettering on it (refer to image attached).Each piece of yong tau foo costs RM1.70 which is quite high. However, they taste super fresh and tasty even after tapao. The soup is also very flavourful. Each piece is freshly made on the spot once ordered. You must pick your ingredients and place in the baskets provided. Each piece does not have the fish paste in it yet. Once you hand over your basket(s), they will start filling them up with the fish paste and cooking them. Certain pieces such as fish balls, fried/soup dumplings or wontons need to be ordered at the counter.Environment is quite dirty and unkempt. However, the place is still very packed during lunch hour. Would recommend to try at least once. If you cannot stand dirty environment, recommend to tapao home but I’m pretty sure they will taste better if consumed on the spot.
