It’s my first time here ; and I always hear good reviews about their steaks. The ambience was perfect for family since it’s homey. The soup was alright. But their seafood chowder is really generous with their amount of seafood at rm16.90 . The fillet mignon was okay . The lamb chop was so so.

I used to come here when I was a kid. My family dinners, birthdays – my family loved this steak joint as it was really the best steak in town! My last visit was six years ago. I went there yesterday and it felt so nostalgic. The table cloth hasn’t change, table layout, the smell, the place they store their fruits and what kind of glassware are hanging at the glass hanger rack. I remember it all. I ordered the Sri Lankan sweet corn chowder, my favourite. Taste just like it did a few years back. Creamy, chunks of crabmeat, the sweet corn. Though it could have been slightly hotter? I would only get the Chicken Maryland when I was a kid because I did not like steak. (Until today I cannot eat steak by myself.) So I opted for the mixed grill. It was well marinated. That is all I can say about the dish. The vegetables were bland. I remember their broccoli used to be so tasty but it tasted like they boiled it with water for a few minutes and put it on a plate without seasoning. The meat were all tender and juicy but the vegetables were really sad. Side of fries? More like 12 pieces of fries. I could count how many they were on the plate. Maybe it has just lost its lustre. They charged me for my sauce that they did not give enough of and do not serve water for free anymore. The place looks pretty empty on a Friday. There are more affordable steakhouses around.

Touted as having the best steak in town, I think this used to be one of those places our parents would bring us for special occasions. Or at least I would dress up because eh, it’s Western food ok.But now, The Ship is like a living relic because though everyone has moved on to more modern approach, they decided to stick to their roots. Somehow, that formula must be working because they are not only still in business but doing well enough that you have to wait for a table if you came in without a reservation.

Utterly disappointed! It used to be one of my favourite places for sizzling chicken and oxtail soup. But the quality has dropped tremendously! The oxtail soup was bland, sizzling chicken tasteless.
