I went there yesterday with my wife and mum to have dinner at this restaurant. This is my second time. I was there last week with a group of friends and was actually quite impressed with the food (value for money), hence I took my family thereThe restaurant was full on a Sunday night. We were given seats around the counter where the head chef was ( I think he was the head chef given he seems to be the person of authority around)We were quite hungry and looking forward to a good meal and experience. Our first disappointment was that a number of items on the menu were not available which my mum and wife wanted to order. Yakitori was totally unavailable. So we asked for grilled Salmon fish head. Not available also – as we were told. We were told another fish head was available so my mum ordered that. She also ordered the tuna belly chawan mushi. So we sat and waited. The waitress came back 5 minutes later and said the tuna belly chawan mushi will take 45 minutes. My mum felt disappointed as she was looking forward to that.  We didnt understand why that can take so long. My experience is if they tell you 45 minutes, it will probably take more than an hour to arrive. So we cancelled it and the waitress seemed happy that we did!  It felt strange. Maybe they did not have it even though it was on the menu!My mum asked what about the grilled fish head. How long will it take to prepare? The answer was 10 minutes. So my mum said okMy wife and I were served our food. We ate and actually quite enjoyed our mealWhen we finished our meal, my mum’s fish head still had not arrived. That was like 45 to 50 minutes laterSo we asked the waitress.  She said another 5 minutes10 minutes passed and no foodMy mum is about 80 years old. She has’nt had a dinner and she got a bit agitated.  She asked the head chef why the food was taking so long to arrive. She was not rude but she did raise her voice a little.  She indeed felt greatly disappointed that the food took so long.  By then it was close to an hour after we came into the restaurantI guess I would have expected an answer that will assure a customer. After all, as customers, we do have our choices when it comes to which restaurants to go to.But instead he went on and on about how long a process it takes to cook that dish. I was just thinking does he mean every time someone ordered that, it actually  takes that long?  Or is it just a case where the restaurant is full and that they are short handed?  In any case, we were told it will take 10 minutes but 50 minutes lapsed and the fish head had not arrivedAnd worst of all, he ended his sentence by saying we are not the only customer that they serve, giving me the impression that our presence was not welcomed. And he said that to my mum in front of me. Not very smartI guess by then we realized he is totally arrogant and a prima donna of some sort – certainly not a person who understands the concept of good customer service. We walked out and we complained to a young supervisor. I guess she can’t do much since this old man chef seems to be the one with seniority in this restaurantBut one thing I do know. I do have choices and I will not definitely go to that restauant again. And I will tell my friends as well

Went and the chef was on MC so only the Rm150 omakase is offered so we ordered that. Add on a variety of sashimi platter but it wasn’t available for god know what reason. Waited for 30 mins only to realise the talented waiter did not place our omakase order. Very disappointed evening indeed.

Uroko is very low key and you may easily pass it without noticing but it is under the radar of many. Ride the elevator to the 2nd floor. They have an extensive menu, It impresses with a wide selection of Japanese dishes. We enjoyed the beautiful presentation of the appetisers as well as that of the sushi. Every plate is a thing of beauty and its flavours as intriguing – nigiri, maki temaki, chirashi or sashimi – all made with high-quality fish. Omakase starts at $150 per person. Omakase means “I’ll leave it up to you” It gives the chef total control and let him surprise you with his choice of prime seafood. My palate runs more on the safer side, I did not try but maybe one day. A meal at Uroko might not come cheap, but at least some things are guaranteed: friendly and attentive service, wonderful food and perfectly fresh fish. It’s a popular restaurant, so make sure to call ahead.

Don’t bother selecting things on the menu. Just go Omakase and trust me that you’d get more value for your money spent. The chef there is generous and will take the time to educate you on the different things he can do for you. Tell him if you prefer more cooked or uncooked fare and he’ll take care of the rest.
