Harum Kuini is, as far as I’m concerned, is the most populated lunch spot for Malay mixed rice in the Strand, and it’s typically my go to spot for lunch since it’s close to my home and my college. The dishes served here range from rice sets like the Nasi Beringin set which comes with chicken, gulai telur (including a whole egg), ikan masin, sambal belacan, kerabu mangga and rice, and your typical Malay mix and match options. The shop is a corner lot, so there are seats outside the store as well. There are plenty of fans, so even in the afternoon heat things rarely get unbearably hot. The seats outside are also shielded from the sun and get some nice breezes every now and then. The inside can get quite congested however, especially during the lunch rush, so be warned. After trying most of the rice sets, I’ve determined that pre-mentioned Nasi Beringin is by and far the best option. It’s a very tasty dish, served in good portion for only RM7.50, and that’s inclusive of unlimited sirap and iced water. The rest of the rice sets however, I would skip. They’re only decent, and they don’t hold a candle to the mixed rice options. The mixed rice at HK is what really stands out in my eye. The options offered aren’t particularly varied, most of the options are the same everyday. Where they really star however is taste, as I’ve yet to taste something I’ve disliked from their lineup. Most of the vegetables taste really good, though I especially recommend the sayur paku if you can get it since it’s one of the best sayur paku dishes I’ve had in a mixed rice shop. The sambal kerang is also really good, and it’s quite cheap too. The best part about lunch here however is that sirap and iced water are completely free, so you can just keep refilling as you eat that super spicy sambal. They also have some freshly cooked dishes ala thai restaurants, but they’re only available after evening and I’ve yet to try one. Perhaps one of these days I’ll go there for dinner and give it a good look. In the meantime, it’s still one of the better spots in Kota Damansara for good old fashioned mixed rice, and it’s priced quite well to boot. Not the best, but I would definitely recommend it to others.
