this place use to be nice japanese cuisine joint, unfortunately the quality of the food has been steadily on the decline over the years. Their waiters needs to be properly trained too for starters.
The taste and quality of food is consider good compare to other Japanese buffet restaurant in town. I specially love the salmon belly sashimi, grill salmon belly and unagi tofu. However it is so disappointing that a number of must-order-dishes are not available and for some dishes they just simply substitute the ingredients without informing us. For example I ordered a chili fried scallop but they gave me scallop mix prawns which I believe they are running out of scallops, Ikura chawanmushi turn out to be ebi chawanmushi. Please have a courtesy to inform your customers instead of simply changing order and please make sure you have all the ingredients to be ready to open shop and run a buffet business! It a shame to call yourself a Japanese eat-all-you-can buffet restaurant but you aren’t prepared with the materials/ingredients that is needed. Also, the service by your manager (chinese guy) is bad, even worser than the foreign waitress.
Only the variety of Ramen here are acceptable and gain points for review. Rice in sushi are too soft and maybe out of date. The restaurant sets a pretty cosy feel and staff are relatively friendly, but would not recommend this place to impress your parents-in-law.
The tempura morriawasa / assorted tempura vegetables are good. They were crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. If I have to pay the full price, I wouldn’t have ordered it. But since I am paying only 1 price for all my orders, it was very worth it.
Overall, seafood like salmon, oysters, scallop etc, all were fresh; however, the rest were just palatable. If you are looking on quantity, Sozo Japanese Restaurant is a place for you to have countless sushi rolls, sashimi at one price. It is totally worth! Nonetheless, if you are go for quality-based Japanese Restaurant, I would love to recommend you others.
