Kind of excited when I saw the reviews, 3.5/5 stars by 5 foodies shouldn’t be too bad. As mentioned by others, we were greeted warmly by their waitresses. Went up to the 1st floor, good ambience and clean place. However, the place was too quiet for dinner time compared to the other Japanese restaurants nearby.Dissapointments came dish after dish. We ordered:1) Sake Ikura Don2) Ten Don3) Soft Shell Crab Salad4) Tomoe Roll5) Una Ten Roll6) Green Tea 1) Sake Ikura Don Four slices of Salmon Sashimi, Salmon roes. The Salmon slices were thin, they’re flavourful, but not really in a good way. They were slimy, and had bitter aftertaste. They take pride in their imported Japanese Rice, but the rice was not consistent in texture and vinegar not spreaded equally. The Salmon Roes were just okay. 2) Ten DonTried a bit of the fish tempura from my brother, it was soggy, the fish slice was thin and the batter was too greasy.3) Soft Shell Crab SaladThe vegetables were okay, but the soft shell crab was too salty and unpleasant. It was not crispy but maybe it’s because of the wafu dressing.4) Tomoe RollNamed after the restaurant, it was such a let down. The pieces were too large for one bite and the taste was too one-dimensional, with simple neutral tasting ingredients. Nothing mind blowing about it.5) Una Ten RollA simple roll with small pieces of unagi, ebiko and cili padi. The roll was fried, the seaweed wrap was crispy but then the rice was just too sticky and the unagi provided little to no flavour. The savior would be the cili padi which provided a much needed contrast otherwise it would be too surfeiting. 6) Green TeaNo flavour. The waitresses were chit-chatting loudly, having fun but oh well don’t want to be too picky about it as they might be bored due to the lack of customers. Total bill was RM 195 for 3 person. Overall, would give 1 star but the ambience and the availability of parking space added some points and so 2 stars if I’m being generous.
A lapse of two years and we returned again to Tomoe. Tomoe compared to other commercial Japanese restaurants is somewhat on a pricey side but certainly worth paying for the excellent customer service, the jockey service, the authentic ambiance and also for the fresh seafood air flown from Japan.Tomoe certainly has made its mark among the locals and also draws plenty of Japanese customers. So here we were at the open dining area on the second floor and from the wide selection of authentic Japanese dishes featured on their menu, we ordered Sashimi Mori Zen, Tempura Moriawase. Seafood Fried Rice and Garlic Tofu Steak. For drinks, other half  settled for Asahi beer whereas I opted for Unne Shu (Japanese Plum Wine), inclusive of Mocha Ice-Cream for dessert.
Bored with the eateries nearby our neighbourhood, we drove to Subang Jaya and by chance found this restaurant. After handing over the car keys to the car jockeys, we walked in and were loudly greeted by the Japanese staff who also ushered us to the upstairs dining area where you can sit at the bar, at the open dining area in the center or the individual private rooms. Ordering was a little confusing and time taking as the menu features plenty of true and true Japanese dishes. Eventually, we managed to narrow down and called for hot sake (small), Omakase Sashimi Moriawase (Sashimi – chef’s specially for the day), Dada Chamame (Japanese steammed beans), Shisamo (Grilled pregnant fish), Aji Shioyaki (Grilled mackerel), Satoima Nikkaragashi (Yam balls) and Ike Asasi Miso Shiru ( Lala/Clams miso soup).
