We had lunch last week at the Albany Village Bakery and Cafe, tucked away behind the library in the village centre. It has all the ambience of a works lunchroom and the cabinet food is fairly standard, but the food quality is good and very reasonably priced, and popular with the local uni student community. We both chose the burger & chips lunch special (one mushroom and the other egg), both with additional cheese. The succulent home-made patties were very tasty, with fresh salad and generous accompaniments. The chips were very good – crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Overall very good value for money, and easy to see why it’s so popular.

This cafe is a favourite for most of Massey University students who study around there. I tried several flavours of milkshake they offered: chocolate, banana, raspberry and vanilla. All of them are nice as well as affordable in big portion (the cup is quite tall), but my favourite is the chocolate milkshake. Some of my friends like the banana milkshake. The price increased by 50 cent compared to last year but it is still okay for the size.For the meal, I recommended the chicken kebab skewer and steak-and-mushroom pie, they are so tasty yet satisfying. The slices of cake and their big cookies there also come delicious in a good price. I never tried their coffee and sandwiches but my friends said they were nice. The owners are so friendly as well! Nice place to have morning or afternoon tea.
Good food, good people. Nice little cafe. Food is good value for money and the coffee is pretty good.
