Crumb is a quirky little cafe in the middle of the burbs with a decent coffee, friendly staff and an amazing dog-friendly rule. But what they specialise in is toast. Gourmet, extra-as-anything toast, and its some of the best damn toast youll find in Auckland! We opted to try the Toona Melt as it sounded irresistible. All their toast is served on the delicious seeded freedom loaf from the midnight baker. This hearty specimen was piled high with tuna and a gorgeous amount of melted cheese. We took the recommendation to make it fancy, which entailed adding a delicious pesto cream sauce, gherkins, and a delicious zaatar-type sprinkling of sesame, cumin and other herbs. Now I know a lot of people feel impartial at best about tuna melts, but this gorgeous creation is everything it should be – the cheese was a gooey blanket that had crisped at the edges, and the extra added flavour from the sauce and sesame topping just gave it that extra zing. Everything about it was perfect. I mean, even the gherkins – most is the time we would avoid them like the plague but somehow they just accentuated the other flavours perfectly! 10/10. Thanks Crumb, well certainly be back for more toast
