Returning from a trip to China where I came back 5kgs heavier, I wasnt too interested in trying this place but after much persuasion from my work colleagues I decided to indulge in their wishes and try out some Chiwi cuisine.Finding Bang Bang was honestly quite annoying, its located within Saint Alice and need to have separate orders. Not too bad for us, we had a few drinks before heading in for dinner. We ordered pretty much everything off the menu, Char Siu pork, Sweet & Sour Pork, Siao Mai, Pork Buns, Chicken Salted Fried Rice, Deep Fried BBQ Wontons, Prawn dumplings and Pork Dumplings. To my surprise the food tasted good. Like I probably wouldnt call this place authentically great but its got its own unique Chiwi flavor. If you look past the poor attempt at Cultural Appropriation, I like how they tried to make it casual and branch out to a wider audience. Having it in such a hot spot especially during the weekend evenings, it is an excellent way to promote Chinese food so from that aspect, thats awesome. Service was fun, I really liked how casual our waitress was and she wasnt afraid to tell us what she liked and didnt like. Understanding that this is to appeal to a specific customer segment Ill be comfortable to give this place a solid Overall Grade: B+Showstoppers: Get the Char Siu Pork, Fried Rice and Wontons. The dumplings and siao mai were quite average.
Love the get up at Bang Bang! Small and quirky. The service is very casual/chill. The food is very white man Chinese. Not that thats a bad thing, just dont go there expecting authenticity. Dan dan noodles were very bland. All the dumplings we tried were fantastic. Char siu has a nice flavour but needs to be more intense. You do however need a lot of plates to fill you up.
