Came here for lunch on a weekday. They have a lunch special for $12.50 which was rice naan curry and a drink. For $12.50 that was such a good deal got the Rogan josh and asked for it there was a good amount of heat in it which wasnt just a sprinkle of chilli powder…… we were also dum enough to order a lamb biryani thinking the lunch special wasnt going to b enough. We ended up packing it completely service was fine and the staff friendly
Cheese naans here are so great along with the lamb sagwala. Both were highlights of our meal. They are also popular for their cream chicken which is also quite nice if youd like a change from butter chicken but prefer a creamy curry. Tandoori chicken was also nicely cooked. Overall, great food.
Chawla’s deco I feel like I’m in Aladdin scene love colourful walls. We ordered bitter chicken, mango lassi, chicken biryani and cheese naan bread with rice. Food was yummy
I highly recommend Chawla’s for authentic North Indian cuisine. The place is well decorated and has the ambience reminiscent of a typical restaurant in New Delhi. The hosts are fabulous, and chefs are second to none. I would be lying to myself if I didn’t mention that I love the music and vibes more than any other Indian place that I’ve been to, in Auckland.
Who doesnt love to eat Indian curry after shopping?Service: 9/10Since we were quite a large group, it took quite some effort to create suitable seating for us, but the waitress happily helped us.She was super patient waiting for us indecisive people who just couldnt decided which curry we wanted with which meat. They also gave up free popadums. The food arrived in a decent amount of time so we didnt have to wait too long. They were also completely fine with us splitting the bill.Food: 7/10I ordered the lamb korma and my friends ordered the butter chicken, mango chicken and a vegetarian curry I cant remember the name of.My lamb korma had a deep warm flavour filled with spices and herbs. The curry did have some hard chunks of spices in it which made eating it a little unenjoyable. The chunks of lamb were huge and the portions filled us up. Its not the worst but Ive had better. The basmati rice was nicely cooked and perfectly fluffy.Ambiance: 7/10The restaurant is quite small and can be easily missed if youre not looking for it.The seats and tables arent super new and clean, theyre ok I guess. The lighting inside is a little uncomfortable when the sun hasnt set yet because the bright sunlight doesnt match the style of furniture inside. There are quite a lot of cultural decorations that boast the traditional atmosphere. This is probably the best indian restaurant in the city but there are better ones in the rest of Auckland.
A very tasty Indian restaurant in the city. The dessert is not on the menu. But if you ask for the staff, the chef will make this one to you. Its a chocolate rotie with vanilla ice cream on the side. Mix them together, tastes excellent.
Been there and i must say – satisfied soul !! Perfect Indian ambience and food is super duper. Yummy tasty food and service is pretty good. We ordered malai kofta kadai paneer bread basket and chicken naan. It was fresh and taste was yummlicious. Must try for some good indian food. Kudos team
