Worst cafe experience to date. I went with my work colleagues and ordered a BLT. The cafe was far from busy but it took 20 minutes just to bring out the heated cabinet food and FIFTY minutes to bring out mine and a friends meals! The others had finished by the time we started – our fries were undercooked and whats worst is that there was no apology or explanation! Would never return.
Good place for Weekday lunch, a delicious stack and health smooth. Nice sea view for stopping and chatting with friends. Good idea for pick some gift from the grocer shelves during the waiting time.
The food and coffee were very average …
Cabinet food looked very appealing so had a toasted bacon & egg bap with a sweet chai latte ($13) very tasty and enjoyed sitting outside in the sun
I highly recommend the chicken and mango salad. Each mouthful was a delight to my taste buds.
Busy taking the final shots for my photography board, in the back of my mind I was trying to suss a spot for lunch. Being around Auckland’s Viaduct you are spoilt for choice. Whether you fancy a bit of sushi – on a train or cooked right in front of you – or an all day breakfast with a view of the harbour, your options aren’t by any means limited. My sister and I stumbled upon Jones The Grocer on Customs Street last Tuesday and being fans of their Newmarket Branch our decision was made. The staff were friendly and inviting which is always a good start in my books. We sat at a street side table. The traffic on Customs Street wasn’t actually that busy so it provided a nice setting to sit down and chat. One down side I will mention was the table being unbalanced, which turned lunch into a bit of a juggling act. Does this annoy anyone else or is it just me being a bit pedantic?Anyway, I ordered the Eggs Benedict which is a current favourite at the moment and my sister ordered the Thai Beef Salad. Both were excellently presented and the taste on the plate was on the same level. The service was a bit slow and we were practically the only ones eating in at the time but the great food made up for it.So it’s a ‘would recommend’ from me. If you are looking for a quiet lunch spot to take your mum or a friend to catch up, this is the place to go. Just make sure you aren’t time restricted which can be difficult due to the parking ‘situation’ Auckland has. twodarkcoffees.com
What a disappointment! After being a regular diner to the Newmarket Jones the Grocer, I was looking forwarding to taking guests from Nelson. The staff were friendly, and that is where is ended. The food was slow to be served, and when it finally came one order was wrong (although accepted after taking so long), 3 of the meals were cold, and a burger came out without the paddy. I will NOT be going back in a hurry.
