Cheap eats that make you happy.Service: 10/10The waiters and waitresses were all so kind and helpful. Whenever we asked for anything they would immediately come to our service. The guy at the cashier was also very friendly. The food was also served quite quickly considering the amount of people in the restaurant.Food: 7/10I ordered the prawn tempura ramen which came with the chicken broth base. The broth was packed with chicken flavour, it was actually quite salty. The tempura was super soggy even though it was just brought to the table. I can understand that since it was in soup it would get a little soggy, but the batter was complete mush. The noodles were perfectly chewy and had a good bounce to it.Ambiance: 6/10It doesnt really resemble your typical kind of Japanese restaurant since it is quite noisy and crowded inside. It is pretty dark which doesnt feel very nice since it can feel gloomy. The dark furniture also absorbs most light that is shined into the restaurant. It can get quite loud since its cheap and Uoa is nearby. This is an affordable option for Japanese food especially if youre an university student. Not really the most authentic Japanese food Ive had though.

I have no joke, been coming here since i was 10 or so. It used to be a family favourite however, I’ve found that the standard has dropped in recent years. Many of the dishes are good, typical japanese dishes, however i have had raw chicken served to me on 2 or more occasions. Sure the service is quick, but what about health and safety? I have also had a ramen drowned in oil which was different to all the times before. I feel like Mentatz needs to focus on consistency as sometimes, the food is great and other times, it’s completely inedible.I am now very wary of coming here.Raw chicken pictured too.

Mentatz used to be my go-to as a broke uni student for some cheap Japanese food. However, they’ve recently changed their recipe for the pork miso katsu don which was my favorite- the sauce and the pork cut is unfortunately different and tastes a bit less satisfying than what it used to be 🙁 However, overall dining experiences during my many vists have been satisfactory and filling for the amount you pay. Its quite a popular place so you have to time your visits during off-peak hours to avoid waiting in line to be seated. Not the best place for ramen, but they serve some cheap, satisfying donburis and the food is served promptly. If you’re on a $10 budget and after some Jap, Mentatz is your best friend.

    | Spicy dry ramen | -A cheap and fulling meal under $10. They are very accommodating to vegetarian, this dish they swapped the bbq pork for tofu. I love the bamboo shoots other condiments that goes so well with the noodles. The spiciness level is very mild!Rating: 4/5

Mentatz is the go to for Ramen in Auckland. The Wafu Tonkatsu Ramen is my favorite. The opening hours are a little disappointing on the weekend. I dont recommend ordering other dishes outside of ramen here and occasionally the noodles can come over-cooked. But overall this is great tasting busy little restaurant where you can have a filling meal for as little as $10.

Great authentic japanese ramen and very affordable! The ramen’s portion are huge and always had to take away half of it.I also recommend the miso katsu donburi and takoyaki.

Always a great ramen here and such a reasonable price too! Came here for lunch yesterday and had the teriyaki chicken dry ramen and it was so flavoursome! Only $11 for a massive bowl that I couldnt even finish.
