Portion size is very generous. I always order the vegetable fried rice (heaped like a mountain by the way) with a side of black bean sauce. The dish also comes with a small bowl of spicy seafood soup (jjambbong soup). The fried rice gets a bit greasy and that is when you should sip on the soup, the two goes so well together.I recommend their sweet and sour pork dish to share. Sometimes I can taste too much cinnamon though. The ladies here are like friendly and funny aunties. This joint is popular: they sometimes run out of ingredients in which point they stop trading, and have an earlier last-order time than other businesses (around 8.00pm). They do not take any takeaway-only orders during the weekends. They also dont take bookings, so expect a small queue when you turn up on peak times. Last time we had to wait outside in the cold for 15mins but the ladies do their best to keep the queue flowing.
Came here today with my whole family after a very long day & I have been coming here since childhood. This restaurant is my favourite place in Auckland to get the noodles with black bean sauce & noodle soup with seafood & vegetable! Also the prices are quite cheap compared to other places. Ordered the couple set – fried pork with sweet and sour sauce, noodles with black bean sauce, noodle soup with seafood and vegetable & also the rice with seafood (sea cucumber). Firstly, the couple set is worth the price as it is $42, however, the price has increased quite a lot and the serving size has nearly halved in size but I know this is due to the increase in price of ingredients. The only issue with this set was the fried pork with sweet & sour pork as 80% was batter & I could barely taste any meat in the dish which was disappointing as it used to be my favourite. It was my first time trying the rice & sea cucumber dish ($15) and found out that sea cucumber tastes so good I really like how soft it is but not too chewy or tough, I really like how the sauce isnt too salty but not bland and the rice was cooked perfectly too. The customer service isnt that great here but for $57 for 4 people is really good considering we were super full afterwards.
Generous portions!!! Love the spicy chicken and black bean noodles! I wish the jjampong was spicier but it was a nice dish to balance out the saltiness of the rest of the dishes. Really nice that you can ask to separate the sweet and sour sauce from the fried pork! Good service and value for money!
Ok so fusion Korean and Chinese where could you go wrong? Simple flavours, simple environment for a simple end to a work week. Tonight was my fifth time here and although I’m based in central, for me this is worth the drive. To me it’s abit of a hidden gem and I was abit hesitant to review (for selfish reasons).THE ENVIRONMENT (4/5)The vibe here is simple and welcoming. No music, no fancy decor but also not tacky. Ideal for a catch up with friends where your voice isnt overpowered by everyone else.THE SERVICE (3.5/5)I love that the staff are so hard working and it shows. Picture the hard working character you’d see in a korean drama at a restaurant and you have this place. Although attentive my only mark down for this place would be the response times to order etc. But in saying that, never have I seen any of the wait staff muck around, always finds something to do…. hard to find in some staff these days.THE FOOD (3.8/5)What I love about their dishes is the simplicity if their flavours, especially in relation to it’s price and quantity. Although over the past year and a bit the price has mysteriously increased.Pork (4.3/5) – Ok so one tip I’ve learned with the pork is to ask to seperate the sauce. You want to do this to preserve the crunch in the batter. I like how the sweet and sour sauce has a subtle cinnamon taste to it as well. When it gets too rich take a bite in the pickle to refresh the taste buds.Chicken (4.4/5) – Ok so I do like the pork a little bit more than this but my rating is based on my three other friends who came. They ranked this highest. It’s medium slice yet one friend with low tolerance to spice kept trying to eat it because og how much he liked the flavour.Seafood Noodles (4/5) – I love the broth of this noodle, perfect combination of flavour that you would expect. Also as cheesy as it sounds I guess I get abit of joy hunting foe the seafood with my chop sticks… its like a lucky dip when you fish for something. Now my problem with this dish is that over the past year and a bit it feels like they have reduced the amount of seafood in the noodle, worth keeping and eye on.Black bean noodle (3/5) – I really like this noodle though I’m not sure if it was just ok because of the standard or because it was like the less attractive friend in the group.Overall I would say with this restaurant, the food is nice, wholesome, basic and ticks the fundamental boxes to a good meal. I would keep an eye on quality and portion as over time the quality has (very slowly) started to decline.WORTH ITOverall, the quality considering the price, I would saybthisnplace is decently good value for money and say it is worth it… happy days.
