We have frequented Hill for many years; but following their consistently awful quality lately, I decided I’d give East Street another try, as I hadn’t visited at all since the change of owners. I’m so glad I did – the food was fresh, tasty and not drowning in pools of grease. The chips were a huge hit – salty and crispy, as was the curry roll which garnered an enthusiastic ’10/10′. The fritters were good also, crispy batter and soft potato (they even threw in an extra, which a lot of takeaways don’t do nowadays) and the fish was not bad (Hoki?) but will try either Gurnard or Snapper next time. If this meal is typical of East Street’s quality, then I will gladly return again and again.
Recently we ordered two of the $6 specials. We received chips, burgers, and sausages. The chips tasted like cardboard, did not appear fresh, and looked as if they had been cooked in oil that had not been changed. The burgers were dull and greasy. The sausages looked as if they had been cooked more than once and looked old.
The only reason Im giving this a 3 is that Ive eaten here before and the fish is generally awesome. Tonight I left without my order as I waited an hour, the place was a shambles, but I put that down to lack of training to the guy on the till. We will go back and hopefully get our fish next time.
