Went for brunch here on Sunday. Had the Ed Street Burger. It was ok. I liked the bun, it was almost biscuity, really buttery but really good. The beef patty was dry and lacked seasoning though.
Was there with my colleagues for lunch. It was very quiet which was a huge bonus for us. The service was amazing and food was beyond our expectation. A well deserved 5* experience!
First timer at Ed street and I was pleasantly surprised. Initially overcharged for our drinks but the staff more than compensated us. We werent there for food but ended up ordering a pizza after perusing the menu & definitely made the right decision! Delicious chicken pizza, great service.
Good atmosphere, but food is average. Friends ordered pizzas and said that they were undercooked and quite doughy. I ordered the steak which was cooked very well but all the sides that it came with on the menu weren’t very appealing. Ended up settling for wilted greens, it was literally that, no potato or anything. Just some Brussel sprouts, broccoli and raw kale.
The decor is shabby and dated, and the burgers were average and made with what looked like store bought patties. The fries and service were great though.
Unfriendly greeting on arrival. Lots of empty tables but request to sit on one of choice seemed to be a problem for a server based on her disgruntled huffing and puffing (we wanted our 3 year old to be out of way and also to be away from door to outside area as lots of smoke was coming in). Drink order was taken quickly and food order shortly after. Drinks arrived fast too.Unfortunately downhill from there. Over an hour wait for food at lunchtime when it wasnt very busy and we had ordered simple dishes seemed very excessive to us when there was no warning or explanation. There are many people who would be unhappy with such a long wait e.g. kids/needing to get back to work/parking time running out etc. We were left sitting at the table with empty glasses and no communication. Server would occasionally glance around room but seemed to be unable to see us or our empty glasses.Eventually after 50 minutes we were told that food would arrive soon. At this point had to move car to be able to eat food without getting ticket. Food was ok but no better than a cheap cafe or takeaway. We werent asked how food was during meal or when paying bill. Bill wasnt cheap either. Very disappointing especially as we often go to Blacksmith in Takanini and have really good experiences. Won’t be returning or recommending any time soon.
Ed Street has both a great restaurant and bar. The menu has nice options and the hand cut fries are delicious. Bar staff friendly and helpful, awesome cocktails, especially the cocktail which the bar man called ‘starburst’ which wasn’t actually on the menu but was made after we told him we felt like ‘something sweet and refreshing’. (would recommend if you have a sweet tooth!). The live bands that play occasionally are great entertainment, good environment for old and young 🙂
