The food served was delicious and truly authentic Japanese food. We ordered the Kaizen Nabe, Ebi Mayo Prawn, Unagi Don and Udon Nabe. The serving is a little bit on the small side however the food is really good. The wait staff were friendly and helpful but the dishes came out quite slow and at different times. We had to wait quite a bit for our last few dishes. Overall, still a good place to go for good, authentic Japanese food. Especially in the cold weather.
It was a full house on a Saturday night. When we arrived at the restaurant we found out that the table reserved for us was erroneously given to another group of customers; the front of house staff members were very apologetic and fortunately we didn’t have to wait too long for another table as we were super hungry at arrival. Ordered a variety of dishes; grilled squid, eel dons, cheese grilled scallop, 16pc sashimi, nigiri, tempura prawn roll, fried tofu, soba and udon nabes, and not forgetting warm sake dish of the night definitely goes to the cheese grilled scallop; scallops melt in the mouth paired with the oozie cheese – match made in heaven!!! The fried tofu, grilled squid and eel (unagi) don were great too. The others dishes are quite average.Very slow serving time; our rate of consumption was way faster than the serving up. Time management needs to be seriously reviewed….with Ai.N Lee
Great service and cute decor, a comfortable jap place for dinner. We ordered the 18pc sashimi, grilled squid, cheese grilled scallop, salmon nabe, fried tofu, and eel Don. The sashimi was fresh and they were cut to a good thickness. The grilled squid was quite tender, smokey, with a tinge of sweetness and miso, and the dipping sauce accompanied it well. Cheese grilled scallops were very cheesy (yum) and the scallops almost melted in my mouth. Fried tofu were surprisingly large, I liked the chewiness of the outside, it gave it extra texture. Salmon nabe could have had more salt, and more toppings. The eel Don was your standard eel Don, nothing popped out at me but it was nice all the same.Definitely would dine here again
Love love love the fried tempura roll with the green salmon roe. Looks great and also tastes great. Also got the Katys, teriyaki beef and eggplant which were nice too. Nice decor and friendly service.
Ichizen is a nice little quiet Japanese restaurant near Flatbush. When you first enter, the quiet music and dim lightings makes you feel at peace. This is actually the number one thing I like about this place. I can come here and just zone out from the busy world.Anyway, on to the food. I had the soft shell crab salad and the eel don. The crab was nicely fried, which was seasoned well and goes well with the salad pairings. The eel don was what you would expect, it was good and hearty.Portion size overall was average, it depends on what you order. The service was self service, but I have to say that, their tea temperature was very good. It was nice and hot. The stone cups that you use to drink, was nice and heavy.I will definitely come back again.Taste – 3.75/5Service – 3/5Ambience – 5/5
Beautiful restaurant with good food and really friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed our meal, if somewhat expensive, but definitely worth it. We will go again for specialty Japanese cuisine because its one of the better Japanese places weve been to.
